I think the Reds will be in the race all season long. As a result, I think Milton will be an even bigger liability this season.

Yes he will

I'm not sure Castellini will hang with him if he gets beat up. We can't afford to give games away in the name of a big contract. His outing was acceptable today, IMO, but his track record isn't the best. GABP is not suitable for Milton.

Yellowstone Park isn't suitable for Milton

He got lucky today. Those 10 hits will turn into more runs. But I don't think they're going to cut him loose. He may have some phantom injuries and end up on the DL for a while though.

Where's he going to go? He might get "DLed" but he won't leave the Reds' roster.

What if the Reds decide Homer Bailey's ready during this season while Milton continues to perform the way we've grown used to? Is Reds management going to have the stones to eat Milton's contract in the name of having a better chance to win? I say they will.

No doubt, he'll make at least 30 starts.

He'd be a 9 mil bullpenner if left to me.

Put me on record as saying he'd be a great left-handed situational guy.

I can see a DFA later in the year when the amount of money eaten won't be as high.

He'll eventually become so "disabled" that the Reds won't use him as a starter.

Would he be getting the Reds in to situations or out of them?

He will make 3 more starts, then go on the DL once again, and then come back, make one or maybe two more starts then either be DFA'ed or sent to the pen. That's this man's opinion.

Put him in the pen - make room for Saarloos or Bailey.

No chance. Unless he remarkably turns things around.

He'd be the "interesting" bullpen guy.

You know, the guy who comes in when the Reds have a 7 or 8 run lead and makes the game interesting.

He might get 3 or 4 more starts but he will get released. Especially if the top 4 in the rotation are pitching well. It will be a PR disaster to keep Milton on board. I know the only reason I didnt go down to the game yesterday was because I didnt want to make the drive to watch Milton.

He does, but only because no one else will take him, hopefully he is not on the roster though by seasons end.

I think the Reds should force the Nationals to take Milton as a fair settlement for the Majewski injury grievance. :ughmamoru

Seriously though, the Nationals are so desperate for pitching they might take him if we pay 90% of his salary. That would be a better deal than just releasing him. The Nationals' ballpark is big enough to hold many of the blasts Milton would allow, so he wouldn't be a terrible option for them.

We paid almost 100% of Danny Graves' $6 million salary when he pitched for the Mets after we released him.

The other option is to put Saarloos in the 5th starter spot and only use Milton out of the bullpen in lopsided games in pitcher's parks.

I agree. I anticipate that he will be DFA sometime in before the all star break. Especially if the team goes through a rough period and the FO decides that Bailey or another 5th starter candidate can be consistently decent.

We can just hope that he pitches well enough to have contenders believe in him. I mean, who doesn't need a starting lefty, hmmmmm?

Most contenders would probably prefer a quality starting lefty.

Okay, non-contenders, then.
