Asked this in the game thread but it moves so fast.

These games are pretty rare nowadays... curious if anyone remembers the last time the Reds took one 1-0?

They beat the Cardinals and Cris Carpenter last year 1-0. Harang had the only RBI.

Probably the best game of the entire season last year. Featured Coffey K-ing Edmonds to the end the inning with men on.

I drank a whole bunch that night. I had to call a cab.

Huh? What? How were either Phillips or Conine Dunn's replacement? Does your blind hatred of Adam Dunn extend to making stuff up?

I was listening to the game in Ann Arbor that night. Man, I jumped out of my chair when Coffey got Edmonds. I think it was right after Pujols had gotten an infield hit to either load the bases or put them at 1st and 3rd.

I love pitchers duels, especially when both guys are REALLY on their game.

Was that early in the season? I watched that in a Chicago bar if it's the one I'm thinking of. A rare instance of Cub fans and I living together in harmony, if only briefly.

That was a fantastic game.

Note, for the record, that Aaron Harang was carrying a 5.35 ERA following that masterful performance.

Reason #124 I'm not worried about Aaron this season.

That's why I keep a wheelbarrow handy--my wife just has to wheel me down the hall.

In truth I was with my brother-in-law, a Mets' fan, at a bar that shows every National League game known to man. A gracious Mets' fan, if you can believe it. It's kind of why I don't hate the Mets.

How do you know he hates Dunn? It is possible that he got something mixed up. Believe it or not, not everyone hates Adam.

Because I've read his posts over the years I have been here...and if I am off on that, sorry. It takes so little for Dunn to take heat on this board, it might as well be for something factual.

What doesn't make sense? He was referencing the pitching duel last April 14th between Carpenter and Harang. Harang went 7+ and had the lone RBI. One heck of a game. I remember I was studying in the library and I logged onto Game Center just in time to "watch" Coffey's battle. Awesome.

And for another "last time"...

The last time the REDS got shutout and followed it with a shoutout of the other team? April 22-23, 2006. And to make it stranger the REDS lose 11-0 and then turn around and win 11-0. It was at Milwaukee and Aaron Harang threw a 5-hit complete game in the winner.

Brandon Claussen... Milwaukee hit 5 HRs in the 4th inning to tie a MLB record for most hit in one inning!

The REDS managed 4 hits off of D. Bush.

And on the other side of the coin...

The REDS got shutout last year after having their pitchers throw a shutout the previous game two times.

(1) June 22-23, 2006 @ Cleveland
> Win 3-0. Lose 4-0.

(2) Sept. 15-16, 2006 @ Cubs
> Win 4-0. Lose 4-0.

Not that anyone cares but I was on a roadtrip last year and on the way to my destination I listened to that Harrang masterpiece on XM. It was in St Louis so I had to listen to the Cardinals broadcast. Then on the way home, about a week later I listened to the two Brewer games you guys are talking about.

I just thought it was interesting that over a year later there is a thread discussing the three games I listened to while driving on vacation last year at this time. I think they were the only three games I listed to as well. We left on Friday, I listed to Harrang and then I think we got where we were going before the Saturday game started. Then the next weekend we left on Saturday and I heard the 11-0 game and then we finished the trip home on Sunday as I listed to that days game.

I believe Dmitri Young hit a homer off him.

Great game for REDS fans and Villone, but the final was actually 2-0. Dmitri Young hit a 2-out solo HR in the 1st inning and Jeffrey Hammonds had an RBI single in the 8th inning. June 30, 1999 at Cinergy Field.

How about Reitsma's duel with the the Unit out in Arizona that went into extra innings (scoreless? or 1-1?) before Graves blew it in the 11th.

That MIGHT have been the game where Donnie Sadler (the fastest man ever) scored from second on a sac fly.

I was at that game. I just remember the whole city was mired in a horrendous heat wave.

Edit- baseball reference states the temp was just 81. I was almost sure it was hotter. Maybe I'm getting old.

Maybe not that early in the year, but I remember watching Steve Avery pitch in 100 degree weather. Luckily I was sitting in the green seats under the yellow deck.

Avery couldn't find the plate that day.

Agree, Harang is a slow starter and doesn't like the cold weather. Just wait until he warms up.

That's the infamous game where Boone had every light stick in the lineup thast night. Sadler, Castro, I think Mario Mendoza had a cameo that night. People complain about it to this day. And, IIRC, the bullpen blew that game in the 9th and the 11th.

I swear to god Juan Castro struck out on a 52 foot pitch. I still to this day claim it's the worst individiual at bat I've ever witnessed. Granted the Unit was awesome.

Didn't Larson send the ball over to their clubhouse with a request for Johnson to sign it? If I remember correctly, the Big Unit was not too happy about it.

If Larson made a habit of asking every pitcher he ever hit a HR off of for their autograph, then he made very few pitchers mad.

Yep. I remember it vividly. It was a school night and I somehow had made it to midnightish to see him mow down one of worst lineups ever constructed. (Castro started at first IIRC) I made it to the top of the 11th when the Reds scored 2 runs on a sac fly. I must have fallen asleep for a few minutes, b/c when I woke up Graves had already blown the game. Oh, the Boone/Bowden years.....
