I choose as my adopted prospect Justin Reed.
4.Justin Reed(CF-Hillcrest Christian Academy-MS)

Comments:He's very athletic with a football scholarship to Mississippi. Speed is his best tool, though he has shown improvement with the bat and in CF.

Redleader welcome back and yes I have a big home so I will adopt a 2nd round prospect :D

Heath

I'll take Jay Bruce - yeah, I know he's decent, but he's in Dayton and I gt tickets to watch him.

I'll take a second if there are others'. I might take a third - but that would be of a personal nature - and not as much of a prospect as others.

I PM'd Shaknb8k...he's on the clock.

Shaknb8k
06-20-2006, 08:35 AM
With the 3rd pick in the 2006 Top Prospect Redszone.com Draft; Shaknb8k selects OF from Billings, Drew Stubbs.

Rumor going around the Shaknb8k camp is that signablilty was a factor in the number one overall selection. Any truth to that Topcat?......Im just messing with you; by the way thanks for the idea. I love it and im looking forward to getting into this.

Shaknb8k will have a 2nd round selection.

It doesn't really matter to me...but if I have to choose, I'll go with everyone's favorite lefty: Travis Wood.

lollipopcurve
06-20-2006, 09:10 AM
I'd like to go with Votto, but Buckeye Redleg has done such a nice job with him elsewhere that I have to leave him be... I'll take a sleeper, a guy who might one day find himself on a major league roster as a utility guy, Michael Griffin.

BuckeyeRedleg
06-20-2006, 09:42 AM
I'd like to take Votto. I'm not sure if lollipop is referring to me or Redleg Nation (above) but I don't see Redleg Nation in the draft and since I already have a thread on Votto, I guess I'll take him.

If that's a problem, I can choose someone else.

I'll take Richie Gardner, if we still consider him a prospect, since I am interested to watch him in his comeback.

Red Leader

Hey, take the chatter to another thread, this thread is all business. Just kidding. HBP is on the clock in the first round. Kind of surprised by the picks thus far.

HBP
06-20-2006, 10:34 AM
I'll take Milton Loo

I'm very interested to see what he can do in the GCL, also I figure it will be more fun following an everyday player instead of a pitcher.

Red Leader
06-20-2006, 10:37 AM
I haven't seen anyone type "PASS" on future rounds after they have picked. Do all of you want at least a 2nd prospect when we get back to you? No problem if you do or if you don't, just trying to save time down the road...

dougdirt
06-20-2006, 12:05 PM
I will take Zach Ward

GoReds
06-20-2006, 12:13 PM
I'll take Carlos Fisher, Dayton Dragons.

LincolnparkRed

I'm going to jinx this thread bad, but I am highly impressed with the speed so far on this - I thought we'd well be into football season before this got done.

 way to go.

Red Leader
06-20-2006, 01:30 PM
I didn't think it would be that bad, at least the first round. Next couple rounds could be slower. I might drop out after the first round depending on who I get and I'm sure others might as well. That will help speed up the remaining rounds. Not sure how many rounds it will go, but I can't imagine it going past 5 or so.

Z-Fly wanted Shafer - do we add to the list and go on?

If that's who he wanted for sure, that's fine by me.

Not sure if dabvu2498 is around now or not. He sent me a list of his picks. Then it's Kitty's turn, and then I have SandyD's pick as well, so we can move right along if Kitty's still near.

Red Leader
06-21-2006, 04:05 PM

SandyD is taking Yoni Lasso.

tripleaaaron is up, followed by me and Buckeye33.

Red Leader
06-21-2006, 05:10 PM
I hope tripleaaaron gets here soon. I have my pick ready and Buckeye33's ready, and I'm leaving from work in about 20 mins. I have to get my lawn cut tonight and my son has a baseball game, so I probably can't be back here until late.

Red Leader
06-21-2006, 05:28 PM
Ok since tripleaaaron hasn't made his pick yet. I'm going to put down 2 players I want: RP Abe Woody and C Miguel Perez. If tripleaaaron takes one of them, I'll take the other.

As for Buckeye33 his top two choices are: Guevara and Denorfia.

So if tripleaaron takes Guevara, I'll take Woody, and Buckeye can take Denorfia.

If tripleaaaron takes Woody, I'll take Perez and Buckeye will take Guevara.

If tripleaaaron takes anyone other than those two, I'll take Woody and Buckeye will take Guevara.

I probably won't be able to check back in tonight. Have a good night, and I'll check on this whole thing first thing in the morning.

New Fever
06-21-2006, 05:33 PM
I'll take B.J. Symanski if he still available by my pick at 24.

tripleaaaron

sorry, just got home from work, ugh, I will choose my favorite Reds name, Abe Woody

Buckeye33
06-22-2006, 02:09 AM
So that means that Red Leader will be taking Miguel Perez and I will be taking Carlos Guevera. New Fever takes B.J. Szymanski.

21. tripleaaaron - Abe Woody
22. Red Leader - Miguel Perez
23. Buckeye33 - Carlos Guevera
24. New Fever - B.J. Szymanski

That puts Reds Fanatic on the clock with the last pick in the 1st round.

Reds Fanatic
06-22-2006, 07:37 AM
I will take Logan Parker the 1B from UC who is playing for Billings. He is already off to a good start. He is already 5 for 7 and hit his first home run last night.

Red Leader
06-22-2006, 03:54 PM
I think we're going to put the draft on hold for the weekend starting tomorrow night or so. I doubt we get through round 2 by then. Most people will be out of town this weekend or away from their computers. Everyone already has at least 1 prospect, so we all have someone to post about if we so desire. We can pick this up on Monday AM when everyone is back to work, etc. Is that ok with everyone?

Heath
06-22-2006, 04:30 PM
I'm breaking the rules - sorry -

With my 2nd Pick - I'm taking Paul Janish.

I'll pass on all remaining picks - however - for kicks and giggles and my boys, I'm selecting a Supplemental Round pick of Jeremiah Piepkorn.

Thanks all - I will start my prospecting soon.

Red Leader
06-22-2006, 04:39 PM
No if you're around and want to keep picking, go right ahead. I'm just saying if we get to someone's pick this weekend and their not around, I'm not going to pick for them. We'll just pick it up whenever they come back to RZ to pick.

Heath, I don't think you should be able to take Piepkorn until round 3, someone else might want him before your next pick. I think it's only fair that he's available to whoever in the 2nd round.

Shaknb8k is on the clock.

Heath

Redleader, you seem to have had your heart set on woody, I will gladly trade you, for your pick and a player to be named later.

Nah, I was just giving you a hard time since I posted that was who I wanted before you picked and you picked him. I had also picked Woody as the first player to make it to the majors from the 2005 draft class, so I have some interest there in following him, but as long as somebody is doing a write up on him, that's fine by me.

I was a catcher in college, so Miguel Perez is a good pick for me. I'm interested in doing more research on him.

I appreciate the offer, though.

BuckeyeRedleg
06-23-2006, 09:57 AM
I will take the American Dragon, Jake Long (catcher) and hopefully be able to take Eddie Rodriguez (if he signs) and any other decent catcher that we have drafted, so that I can focus on them as a group, seeing as it is a pretty weak overall position right now in our system.

So, I won't be taking anything but catchers from here on out. If someone wants one, they can have them, but I'll still be providing updates for that position as a whole. Other drafted catchers: Chris Denove, Justin Tordi, Anthony Esquer, Tyler Hauschild, Craig Tatum...

Basically give me a pass from here on out or just assign me:

-Rodriguez
-Esquer
-Hauschild
-Denove
-Tordi
-Tatum

....in that order, (if we are still drafting when my pick comes up). IF everyone has passed and the draft is basically over, then I'll just gobble up the remaining catchers for the catcher report. I see Red Leader took Miquel Perez and that is fine as he doesn't fit my category for drafted catchers. Hopefully our version of Yadier Molina is playing for the big club soon anyway (with Ross, after we rid ourselves of the 10M we have doled out to Valentin and LaRue-but that's another story).

And don't you worry all you Dane Sardinha lovers out there. I don't plan on tracking anything he does, as I see him selling insurance by 2007.

rdiersin
06-23-2006, 11:47 AM

I'm sorry I got to this thread late...what exactly does one do once one ''adopts"' a prospect?

Why hasn't Denorfia been selected? Doesn't he qualify anymore?

dougdirt
06-24-2006, 07:56 PM
oneupper, basically every few weeks a player that is drafted will have an update made for that specific player. It will list their updated stats, and any news or notes on that player, so that way more people can keep up with more prospects. With Denorfia, I think its a fact that he is so close to the show that it wouldnt be worth while to most as you wouldnt be updating him much longer or able to follow him through the minors like if you took someone in the low minors.

Ok, here's where we are at:

3rd round. Topcat passed, I gave Heath Jermiah Piepkorn since he wanted him in a previous round and was not taken, everyone else passed down to BuckeyeRedleg, and I gave him all remaining catchers as he wanted since there are only a couple teams still picking. I believe dougdirt is on the clock...

Thanks doug, do you wish to continue drafting?

Ok, here's where we are at.

I decided to give Z-fly Christopher White, a 2006 draftee who has signed, since he hasn't been on the board since Sunday.

SandyD is up next and she wanted Brandon Rice, another 2006 draftee and then is going to PASS on future rounds.

AvesIce51 wanted in on the action, and wanted Daniel Guerrero, so I'm going to give Guerrero to him.

New Fever, I'll give you Rafael Sanchez and Thomas Pauly and then a PASS on future rounds.

That leaves dougdirt as the only one still drafting, other than Z-fly, and I don't know if he wants another prospect or not since I haven't heard from him.

The front page / first post should be updated and current now.

dougdirt is the only one (other than Z-fly, who is MIA) still drafting, so I guess dougdirt is on the clock....

BUMP...with Chick being traded today, Topcat needs to pick another prospect.

He doesn't have to pick another prospect, unless he wants another one.
With trade deadline coming up, now's a good time to address this. If you have say, 3 prospects that you have "adopted" and one of them gets traded away, if you don't want to pick up another prospect, you don't have to. If you do want one, then we'll go about it like this:

1) If a prospect you "adopted" has been dealt away, and you want another one, you will have dibs on any prospects coming back to us via a deadline trade.
2) If multiple prospects are dealt away and multiple prospects come back then we'll go in draft order (on the first page) as far as who has priority to pick first, assuming multiple people want to adopt some of the new prospects.
3) If your prospect gets dealt away and you don't want another one, please post in here that you will not be replacing "player X," so we'll know we can skip over you and that any prospect aquired in trade is fair game for anyone that wants him.

I don't think we're going to have to worry too much about this as I don't think Krivsky's going to be bringing in many prospects, just major league ready guys.

BTW, anyone hear anything from Z-fly yet?

Lawhorn puts bad luck behind him

Darryl Lawhorn's flight out of New Hanover International Airport departed 15 minutes late Tuesday morning.
Delays have become the norm for the former New Hanover High School standout, who was headed to Kansas City to join an independent league baseball team.
He hopes to make his long-awaited professional debut Friday night after recovering from his third significant injury, a stress fracture in a leg that sidelined him for two months and caused the Cincinnati Reds to let him go -- the second major league-affiliated team to release him following injuries.
No one can remember a player of Lawhorn's magnitude having to wait three-plus seasons to begin his career.
John Manuel, Baseball America's co-editor in chief, searched a data base and couldn't come up with a player with a comparable plight.
Howard McCullough, the Arizona Diamondbacks' scout who signed Lawhorn as an 11th-round choice from the 2004 draft, couldn't think of a player whose luck was as bad.
"I can't think of any other cases like his,'' McCullough said. "He's such a good kid with a passion for baseball.''
McCullough said Lawhorn probably missed few games with the Wildcats and stayed healthy for most of three seasons at East Carolina, where he played in 64, 60 and 54 games.
Lawhorn was a first-team, Freshman All-America outfielder and Manuel said he was one of the top five newcomers in the nation in 2002.
He slammed 33 home runs his first two seasons with the Pirates.
He originally broke a bone in a foot while fouling off a pitch in April 2004 and two months later suffered a second fracture in the same foot. The Diamondbacks took him anyway and signed him in January 2005, but Lawhorn re-broke the same foot that spring and Arizona released him. After rehabbing last summer, the Reds signed him over the winter.
"You hate it for any kid, especially one with Darryl's bat potential,'' McCullough said.
Lawhorn came off the disabled list last Friday, but the Reds released him, leaving him only one option -- to prove himself in the Northern League. He will play second base for the Kansas City T-Bones, managed by former big leaguer "Dirty" Al Gallagher.
"It's been a battle and hopefully I'll stay healthy and get picked up at the end of the season by a major league affiliate,'' Lawhorn said.
Lawhorn doesn't seem bitter and called the setbacks bad breaks.
His latest injury happened during a conditioning drill while running bases in extended spring training.
"I was going one way and my leg went the other,'' he said. "It's just bad luck right now. It will eventually turn to good luck.''

I draft for my new prospect 16. Jamie Arneson, LHP, Bakersfield (Calif.) CC

http://reds.mostvaluablenetwork.com/...draft-roundup/[url]
16. Jamie Arneson, LHP, Bakersfield (Calif.) CC
6′5″/195#, L/L, Age 20

“Struck out 102 batters in 81 innings this season.”

“For Arneson, his 16th-round selection came as a disappointment considering his high expectations entering the draft. The lefty, who helped the Renegades to their first outright conference title since 1976, was chosen in the 9th round out of high school and Arneson had hoped to improve on that.

The 6-foot-5 prospect may have scared off interested teams, though, after switching agents the night before the draft.

“I knew it would be a bit of an issue,” he said, “but I didn’t know it would be this big.”

But Arneson still has college eligibility remaining and a scholarship to play for Mike Martin at Florida State if he so chooses. This summer will be spent pondering options and trying to convince the Reds he’s worthy of more money than the average 16th-round pick.

“I’m probably going to play in the Cape Cod league and just show them what I can do and see what they say then,” Arneson said.”

And guess what: Arneson signed at the end of June? Apparently money talks. Or something did.
