Wow, Narron put Valentin ahead of Edwin.

Strange? Yes. But at this stage it may be a ploy to take a little pressure off of Edwin, the kid has pressed all season long so far and showed signs last night that he may be ready to snap out of it. If Narron thinks hiding him lower in the order will ease his mind a bit for the greater good of the future of his season, then I'm all for it.

Then again Narron could just be an idiot. :D ;)

This is normally true (and is a phrase I will be implementing into my vocabulary), but Garcia is given a pass due to his performance in the 2005 postseason, his interesting jewelry, and, uh, his previous run-ins with the law.

And Matt, there are plenty of players I don't like, but I don't talk about them here for fear of unintentional insulting of our fellow board members. But for the most part, yes, I'm indiscriminating.

I agree. There hasn't been enough season for anyone who doesn't have a prior record of success to be 'proven'. That said, we have a few players I consider proven who are currently underacheiving. Hopefully, they'll have some hot streaks to catch up with their norm.

Glad Narron is batting Dunn 5th. You just can't have a guy who doesn't make contact with the ball batting 2nd. That spot needs to at the very least, move a runner over via a ground ball...long flyout to right....sacrifice....sacrifice fly....anything.

Can't think of a better player I'd want batting behind Freel than Hatteberg. He's smart...he reads situations and adjusts his at-bats accordingly.

Don't care if he did ground out to third. We had our best chance in that situation with Hatteberg up at the plate.

Better than watching the ball into the catcher's mitt and turning around and walking back to the dugout. At least with the ball in play anything can happen. Nothing can happen with a strikeout. Dunn just doesn't think about what's best for the situation.

He's not Roger Clemens but, I'm sold on him. He'll be a solid back-of-the-rotation guy for us, provided he stays healthy.

4 runs in 3 IP notwithstanding, Belisle is not what will lose us this game. Our team's complete and total inability to compete offensively will. Or our bullpen.

If he does that, he'll improve his numbers. If Dunn puts more balls in play, his stats will go up. Remember, he still drives in around 100 even when he's "underperforming" by your standards. A few more points with RISP should bring him up to 110 RBI or so.

Dunn's not pressing. He is what he is. He has too long of a career now to be anything other than a .219 hitter with RISP. If he ever has a year that's different than this, then that particular year would be freakish, and then the next year he'd go back to his norm.

On Dunn:

Everyone was so happy with the new aggressive Dunn. And I've said it several times since ST, with this new aggressiveness his slumps are going to be really, really bad this year. In the past he was patient and got a lot of walks even when he was slumping, so he was still at least getting on base. This year he's swinging at a lot of bad pitches and not taking very many walks. Dunn's never going to be a high contact guy, so he might as well stay patient and draw the walks. I love the fact that he seems to have shortened his swing a little bit, but I don't think he needed to become more aggressive. Just MO.
