Shouldn't have any major problems, I wouldn't think

Wow, I've never criticized a line up. But that line up sucks. Dunn is not a 6th hitter. How is he going to get any pitches to hit with EE and Javy hitting behind him. I'm sorry that's flat out stupid. And I'm the guy who defends most of Jerry's moves.

Hit Dunn 2nd and let him get on base for Hamilton. Hatte is good lower in the order. He always has been, let him hit 6th. Teams will throw him strikes in that spot.

Marc D

Phillips 3rd and Gonzales 5th......it just never ends.

I think Jerry is reinforcing BP's Willie Mays Hayes impersonation by continuing to bat him in the middle of the order.

I don't like the lineup for the same reasons many state. I wonder if this is Jerry's attempt at making a statement. He hitting his 3 hottest hitters lately (Phillips, Hamilton and Gonzalez) 3-5.

I don't like Gonzalez's chances against a stud like Snell.

I'm done. I know some might think I am flipping out too much but this is a joke. Gonzalez hitting 5th and Dunn 6th. This franchise is pathetic and does nothing to try and win. They are like the Bengals of the 90's. You wonder why they can't ever reach .500? They leave people like Jerry Narron in charge. It's April and I really dont care if I see another game this season. I hope the team tanks and Narron is gone by the ASB. Sorry for the rant.

It's often easier to be a Devil Rays fan or a KC fan, you actually expect them to lose.

Yesterday (I think) I posted that Narron's lineups were actually fairly predictable, based generally on whether or not a LH or RH pitcher was on the mound, and based on the actual players playing (as the Reds have 4 OF's sharing 3 postions, and 2 platoon positions).

But this lineup has gotten me.

Gonzalez should never hit ahead of Dunn vs. any RH pitcher (and perhaps any pitcher), unless of course, Gonzalez was hitting 2nd and Dunn third. Not that Gonzo should ever hit 2nd.

Honestly, I am to that point. I usually flip out during games when the Reds play the way they have the last week. I havent got mad since Coffey's meltdown in game 1 of the Astros series last week. I dont know why we should feel like "at least we root for a team better than KC or TB" cause we dont.

And please spare me the we only finished 3 games out last year. If the Reds were in the AL East they would be right there with the TB. If the Reds played in the AL Central they would be with the Royals. Remember how well last season went against the Tigers, White Sox, and Indians?

He's not taking any walks, but he is hitting the ball right now. 12 hits, 3 home runs 10 RBI and only 1 BB in the last 10 games. He's hitting the ball very well right now, I just wish he's mix in more than one walk every 10 games. I'd like to see him hitting 4th or 5th instead of 3rd.

Marty was suggesting batting Dunn 6th because of his ability to get on base but his inability to drive in runs.that's a reason to bat 2nd, not 6th. With the Reds bottom of the order guys, the OBP is wasted.

Honestly, this team is gonna suck no matter where Dunn hits.

That's the complete opposite of conventional wisdom. A see a 6th place hitter as a Willy Mo type. Doesn't get on base, but can drive in runs.

If Dunn isn't going to hit in a conventional sluggers postion (3-5), he should hit before, not after, those guys.

But "Wisdom" and Marty haven't exactly been seen lately walking hand in hand down the street.

That's an even better example. Phillips drove in a bunch of runs last year for us hitting low in the lineup.

I hope, over the next few years, Phillips can get his OBA up to the .360 range, but he's not there now.

Hi all,
I'm a red sox fan but starting last year I started following the Reds more closely and had a few of their players on my fantasy team last year and this year (at various times - Encarnacion, Freel, Phillips, Dunn, Hamilton) so I come to this board often for info -- thanks for that.
So I've also noticed the Narron roster juggling tendency. It seems in the past when anything like that happened in Boston, players would voice their disgruntled opinion of being taken out of a role they were used to and I think there is some credence to that. Don't players in Cinci ever say anything about Narron's manic roster juggling?

Cincy seems to be a place where the players are expected to do what they are told and not complain. For example, Cormier recently compained about lack of playing time, and NArron said "Take it up with the GM"..

Don't blame Milton completely on those three runs given up there. Sure, it's annoying to watch the Reds have to come from behind, especially with this offense struggling. However, both pitches that Milton threw that drove in runs were at or below the knees, especially the fourth hit that LaRoche hit. LaRoche had to golf swing that pitch. What this shows me is that Milton is finally fully aware that he is not a quality pitcher and that he gives up the fly and long ball. So now he has adjusted his pitching repitoir (spelling?) to not rely so much on his fastball, but his curve and breaking balls and try to make the pitches end up in the bottom of the strike zone. At least give him kudos for that. If the Pirates can hit dust balls, then don't blame Milton. Give credit to whom it is due.

Griffey diagnosed with pleurisy, listed as day to day

April 27, 2007

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Ken Griffey Jr. remained out of the Cincinnati Reds' lineup for a second day Friday with pleurisy, an inflammation in the lining of a cavity surrounding the lungs.

Griffey was held out of Thursday's game in St. Louis with soreness in his chest. A chest X-ray on Friday revealed the problem, which is not expected to be a long-lasting condition. He is listed as day to day.

Griffey recently missed four games with a different type of inflammation, a colon condition called diverticulitis that was initially diagnosed six months ago. He returned from that problem Tuesday to hit his first home run of the season and the 564th of his career, moving him past Reggie Jackson for 10th place on the career list.

After missing most of spring training because of a broken hand, Griffey has a .254 average with nine RBIs in 18 games this season.
