After watching Jeff Conine and his offensive role on the team, it really reminds me of Rich Aurilia. Conine doesn't play all over the infield granted but it looks like Krivsky will get near the offensive production for alot less.

Conine's a decent player but he'll never be given a chance on these boards because he's over 30.

Conine's good but he's not The Man. And to be The Man, you have to beat The Man. Whoooooo! ;)

He doesn't hurt us in the field as much as Rich did too.

Rich did not hurt this team in the field. Especially at first base.

I have to give Conine some props. He's definatley pulled his weight thus far. I was down on him when he was signed, but so far so good. Can he continue to produce over the course of an entire year, as RA did? That's in interesting question. And will it be enough production (in combo with Hatte) that 1B warrents?

But whether he's over 30 or over 300 doesn't matter since he's currently helping out his team.

Could old guys be Wayne's area of expertise?

Well, position players anyway...

Conine is old enough to be Aurilia's great grandfather. And Aurilia isn't a spring chicken.

Conine really doesn't have Aurilia's pop.

Given 250 AB's in the right situations Conine should do OK.

At firstbase, no. Everywhere else, yes, in my opinion.

That may be true, but I have personally heard it said that Jeff Conine is a jet-flyin', limousine-ridin', kiss-stealin', wheel-dealin' son-of-a-gun. Meeeeeean Geeeeeeeeeene. Whooooo!

I have to say that Conine has far exceeded my expectations. He is a heck of a fielder and seems to give a good at bat every time he comes up to the plate. He's proved me wrong, you won't hear me cracking on his "young body" any more. LOL, keep it up Conine

I didnt like Conine when we got him. He has proven me wroong with the way he has played. To quote Narron" he plays the game the right way". Or something like that.

I like Conine the way Narron is playing him now.

I was afraid Jerry would start him in the OF and at 3B just to keep him in the line up everyday.

True. I'm impressed with The Barbarian, but I know that at 40, things go wrong no matter what shape you're in. Little things to a 30-year-old become big things to a 40+ guy. That's my only complaint. Thus far, he has been used correctly and it has paid dividends.

Looked solid again today. Hard guy not to like.

He is hitting like Aurilia right now. Hard to know if he can sustain it.

The Hatt/Conine platoon still is clicking

.302 BA
19 RBI
14 Runs
6 Doubles
1 Triple (Conine, oxygen was administered)
4 HR's

I'll take that pace all season, frankly.

Conine is an ok player right now. He is not going to do anything spectacular right now but he isn't going to do anything awful. I didn't like the trade when it first happend because there has to be a youth movement here at some time. Bringing a guy at 40 years old helps the team some right now but it doesn't do much for the development of some players. It also scared me when they said the could play 3b and I thought we were going to have another season of Narron benching EE to get a veteran in the lineup.

If Narron would have benched EE and started Conine thus far we would probably won a few more games. Not slamming EE here, but he was in an aweful funk. Nice to see him working out of it though. We will need them both against left handed pitching.

Frankly, I don't care what Conine's doing at the moment. Same goes for Hatteberg. I have no doubts as to where they'll end up and when they get there we're all going to want more.
