View Full Version : Adam Dunn = SB machine

Adam Dunn is ranked 12th in the majors in stolen bases with 5. If you go by percentages, he is 5th with 5 attempts at 100%.

Sure, one was a piggy back off a double steal. But he has been a pretty good baserunner. Scored today from third on that dumb play by Paulino on the "Sac" bunt by Belisle. There was another play earlier this year where I remember mentioning his good baserunning, though I can't remember it right now.

So, maybe he hasn't been incredible at the plate right now, but he has done well in other areas that he hasn't always done well in like baserunning, and more surprisingly, fielding.

I like how he scores runs.

Maybe batting Dunn in the leadoff spot wasn't quite as absurd as some people thought back in 2003. If you did that though his RBI chances would go down batting behind the bottom of the order, but still it's interesting to kick around 4 years later. Dunn batting leadoff was due to his OBP and not his speed, but he did steal 19 bases in 2001.

I think that might be the one where he got in the run-down to let Conine advance.

Overall I've liked what I've seen WHEN he's on the basepaths. He needs to work on being on them more often.

35.7% of the time this year, 37.9% of the time for his career.

Hes only 72 away from the 77 he said he would steal this year.

For the Reds? Or for the Reds plus the Bats? He didn't even come up until August. So if it was for the Reds, that's pretty darn good.

Now, if he could just hit a sac fly...

Like today's? Even though the runner was on first instead of third? And not in scoring position?

For the Reds, but it was actually in 2002, when he played 158 games up here.

For the record, he stole 15 bases in 2001 at Chattanooga, Louisville, and Cincinnati. Four of those were with the big club.

The homerun he hit today was on a 3-0 count. I bet Thom B. was ticked off that Dunn was hacking on that pitch.

Redsland

Thom kills me with that stuff too, plus his "first pitch hacking" gripe. Those are two counts in which you've got a real solid chance of seeing a fastball down broadway. So if you do, in fact, see a pitch you think you can drive, go for it. They won't all be bombs, but that's baseball.

Just pointing this out - Dunn had more than 20SB in a season twice in his minor league career and had 19 his rookie year.

Bonds went 40/40 never 50/50. He never hit more than 50 hrs until his season of 73. Dunn should atleast have 20 stolen bases this year. The guy just knows how to pick his spots and is very successful. Maybe Freel should take lessons from the dunner when it comes to stolen bases.

Maybe Freel should take lessons from the dunner when it comes to stolen bases.

Problem is that when Freel gets on base, everyone and their brother expects him to steal. With Dunn, they don't expect it so much. It's the element of surprise.

I think I remember Dunn bragging & saying he would steal a bunch of bases (can't remember the exact number) last year, but it never happened much.

That was during spring training this year (http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070502/SPT05/705020331/1027).

He's not Ichiro, but Dunn's perfect at stealing bases

By C. Trent Rosecrans
Post staff reporter

HOUSTON - During spring training Reds left fielder Adam Dunn continually joked that he was going to "be Ichiro" this season, playing the small ball game perfected by the Mariners' Japanese star, Ichiro Suzuki.

So far in 2007, Dunn has lapped Suzuki on the base paths. The Reds slugger stole his sixth base of the season in Tuesday night's 11-2 victory over the Astros.

"Seventy-one more to go," Dunn said, referring to the goal of 77 stolen bases he jokingly set for himself in the spring.

That and Freel just doen't seem to be very good at reading pitchers. Gets picked-off, gets caught too frequently. I wish he wouldn't run.

If I were a middle infielder, I would give up the base as defensive indiference. I would fear 260 pounds of Dunn coming at me!:yikes:
