Anyway, Josh Hamilton has been named the National League Rookie of the Month, so that's nice.

An update from C. Trent

From MLB

Cincinnati Reds outfielder Josh Hamilton, who led all rookies with six home runs and tied for the lead among Major League rookies with 13 RBI, has been voted National League Rookie of the Month for April, while Boston Red Sox left-hander Hideki Okajima, who fanned 17 batters in 12.2 innings pitched, has earned American League Rookie of the Month honors.
Hamilton also led all rookies with a .609 slugging percentage and posted a .365 on base percentage. He batted .266 (17-64) with 12 runs, two doubles and a stolen base. This marks the first time that a member of the Reds has earned the honor since Austin Kearns in May 2002.

Not that I want to trade Josh but what is his value right now?

That's fantastic news for this organization. First an all-glove/no-hit free agent acquisition wins NL Player of the Week on the strength of a .520 average, then a Rule 5 draftee starts his All-Star bid.

Very nice.

Exactly what I was thinking. What a terrible message we are sending to our farm players, huh Steve?

Perhaps the easiest decision the National League has ever had to make. Is there a rookie even in the same galaxy as Hamilton right now?

From Fay's blog:

Josh Hamilton didn't know about the Rookie of the Month thing until he arrived at the clubhouse.

"It's cool," he said. "You couldn't write up any better than it's happened for me so for."

Then Hamilton starter talking about having to start doing better against right-handers again. You have to like his attitude.

"It's been amazing," Jerry Narron said.

I'd go along with that.

Hopefully he can lose that "...of the month" tag at the end of the year :D

Congrats Josh, you more than deserved it. :)

Congrats to Josh. Looking at the stats, what impressed me most about his start (aside from his complete control of the strike zone) was that his BABIP is sitting at a slightly unlucky .267. There are no words that can describe the talent this guy is showing right now. I honestly think, as some people have said earlier, that Adam Dunn may not have been really joking when he called Hamilton the best player he has ever seen.

Well he's normalizing a bit, but it was a groovy month he had all the same.

Is that a Lorn Wallace quote? If so, I like it.

I'd trade Hamilton and Encarnacion for Miguel Cabrera right now.

Well now that you mention it... :D

Actually I was just yanking Chippie a little. We've had so many trade threads over the years (with all due respect to Krusty) that just the mention of trading Hamilton sent me over the edge. :help:

I always love it when you yank me, creek.

I don't want to trade him either. I'm just curious what his value is. I believe Billy Beane has a value on every player in the A's organization and I would suspect most GMs do likewise. Is he worth a #1 pitcher? A top flight closer? A good catcher? A utility IFer? A 5th starter, a top minor league prospect?
