I remember when he pitched a great game against Cleveland for us last year then we traded him. I have a feeling that will be a trade that comes back to bite us in the rear (as usual).

Sometime back I suggested that the Cormier trade was bad not just because of Cormier and the contract Krivsky gave him, but also because we lost Germano. Others thought Germano was just a disposable #5 at best etc. What Milton shows is it's not that easy even to get a reasonable #5. Germano has a good chance to be a major league pitcher, and I hope he does very well. He's having a lot better start tonight, incidentally, than Milton had for us. And he's a whole lot cheaper.

He's going to need more than one good start to convince me of anything. I'll stand by my opinion that his stuff is mediocre at best and we won't end up seeing much of him in the majors after it's all said and done.

I agree Geramano is mediocre at best. At the same time, this was a club that ran out Michalek, Kim, and a bunch of other total stiffs during a playoff run.
Not to mention that Cormier was pretty much useless, and cost us something like 3-4+ million for gracing us with his pleasure.

These are just a few examples out of the hundreds out there. If a trade doesn't "pan out" its a bad trade imo. Even if Germano has a Steve Traschel type career, still a bad trade.

Oh, I have seen plenty of posts telling us how much Felipe Lopez stinks.

In 2007, he's now pitched 45 innings between the major leagues and the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

In those 45 innings, he's given up exactly zero home runs.

I didn't really complain about this trade at the time, so I won't hammer WK too hard. But it's not looking good in retrospect.

It's important to point out, however, that this guy cleared waivers on 3/30 (http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070330&content_id=1871025&vkey=spt2007news&fext=.jsp&c_id=sd) this year. Anybody could have had him. So if he turns into a solid #4 major league starter, there are a number of GMs who'll owe themselves a headslap.

To be fair on the Smoltz / Alexander trade at time of the trade Smoltz was a 20 year old in AA with a 4-10 record and a 5.68 ERA and Alexander put up 2 and a half pretty good years in Detroit and pitched lights out in 1987 when they were trying to get to the WS.

No one at the time could have known that Smoltz was destined to be a future HOF player.

Just read where Cormier signed a minor league contract with the Braves. Hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere here so I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Also, to be fair, the Tigers made the playoffs in '87, and Doyle went a sick 9-0 with 1.53 ERA. They won the division by 2 games. It would be very tough to argue that he didn't make the difference.

If there ever was a now-for-later trade, that was it. It's just a shame for the Tigers that they lost to an 85 win team in the ALCS.
