Why even play any of the games then? Just have a computer simulate every game of the season according to whose the better pitcher. That will be fun. Penny is human I'm not saying this will be his off night but he's like any other pitcher and he'll have some off games. Hey, I think Nolan Ryan lost a few games back in the day, and Cy Young, and Sandy Koufax, and Tom Seaver, and so forth and so on.

I think the reds will rebound tonight with a win and Keppinger will play as he should, good AB's and solid defense.

Loshe pitching should be interesting tonight but i think he will do well against the Dodgers if he doesn't get in trouble early in the game like arroyo did last night

As good as Penny has been lately I feel much better seeing the Reds face him then your run of the mill lefty that the Reds have been turning into Cy Young candidates (ie Doug Davis, Randy Wolf, Ted Lilly). Im hoping the Reds give Brad the Zambrano treatment tonight

Not a big Narron complainer, but to bat Gonzo 5th with Dunn 6th is getting beyond lidicurous. Your best or 2nd best bat (Griffey being the other choice) and you have him buried 6th for the sake of lefty/righty splits.

If Narron is going to pull this stuff, then what are we going to do with Votto and Bruce in the pipeline...both being lefty combined with Hamilton, Dunn and possibly Griffey?

I agree with you. I like Jerry, and I am generally supportive of him, but I think that he is too concerned with splitting Griffey and Dunn in the lineup. I think that they should often (almost always) hit back-to-back. As I've said before, Chuck Tanner wasn't worried about hitting left-handed hitters Dave Parker and Willie Stargell back-to-back in the #3-4 spots for those good Pirates teams in the 70's.

I would prefer to see the following as the regular lineup:

vs. RHP:
Freel 3b
Phillips 2b
Griffey rf
Dunn lf
Gonzalez ss
Hatteberg 1b
Hamilton cf
Ross c
<pitcher>

vs. LHP:
Freel 3b
Phillips 2b
Griffey rf
Dunn lf
Gonzalez ss
Conine 1b
Hamilton cf
Ross c
<pitcher>

With Freel out of the lineup tonight, then start Keppinger at 3B in the #7 spot, and move Hamilton into the leadoff spot. Josh looks like he will be a versatile player offensively--one who can be comfortable in several spots in the order.

My preferred lineup for tonight:

Hamilton cf
Phillips 2b
Griffey rf
Dunn lf
Gonzalez ss
Hatteberg 1b
Keppinger 3b
Ross c
Lohse p

I like Vin Scully. I imagine he's rather averse to things like, you know, numbers and that, but when he talks about the Reds going down to strikeouts I envision a man crumpling at the mercy of a silent jelly bullet.

ie. he's telling fairy tales, but he's appropriately dramatic about it.

I was wondering the same thing. Here's what I found on wikipedia:

On October 16, 2006, the Dodgers announced that they would keep Lyons as a commentator for their road games. The team said that they gave Lyons probationary guidelines and that he would undergo diversity training.

Sox win. Seriously, that was a very entertaining game. Sox had a 2-0 lead but the Royals came back to lead on a 3 run HR by John Buck - which probably made Jason LaRue think about getting on with his life's work. Sox tie it in the 9th on a double by Uribe that just missed getting out. Then Piersynski worked about a 12 pitch AB before popping up to SS. A.J. just slammed his bat down in disgust after that. Konerko sure isn't hitting very well so far this year.
