Tony Perez is a potential manager who this team may respond to. I have no clue what he is doing these days though. He may actually let Hamilton battle through slumps even against left handers.

Works in the Marlins organization....I'm not sure his role.

I'd love to see some of the old Reds greats come in and work with the team. Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez, Barry Larkin, any of them could manage or coach the team.

Great players rarely make great managers. Sure, there are exceptions, but for the most part, great players have short runs in the management business.

While I agree that Perez was let go too soon in '93, I think he's too passive.

Does anyone remember Perez's record as a manager when he was fired?

Perez's firing was the perfect example of a shady Jim Bowden move. When Marge was suspended from running the day to day operations of the team, Bowden saw the opportunity to get rid of her guy, and put his in his place. Perez's firing wasn't about performance, it was simply the fact that he was Marge's choice to manage the team, and Bowden wanted Davey Johnson. Ironically, Johnson's tenure as Reds manager was cut short by Marge because she didn't like the fact that he was living with his girlfriend while they weren't married.

This organization sure has made a lot of stupid decisions that have had nothing at all to do with baseball.

I know he isn't in Cincy. Was cut loose and never had a chance. While Duds and retreads continue to be given chance after chance.

Thanks RBA for setting me straight. You really schooled me. This was as much of a "what is Tony Perez doing?" thread as a thread concerning Narrons replacement. Take it easy.

Oh, I see. You are correct. Luckily I'm not a mod with an itchy trigger finger. ;)

I don't know that Perez as manager would help this team much, and I frankly do not know if I'd wish this Reds team on Tony. I like The Big Dog too much to do that to him. :)

I think he is working with Dale Murrey and Woody Fryman in Montreal
