This from cyclone series preview (http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58453) thread:

Ian Snell (RH)
Johnny Cueto might be one of Snell’s biggest fans since a successful Snell might help end the bias against short starting pitchers in the majors possibly helping Cueto avoid a probable move to the pen as an uber power righty set up man. Snell was rushed to the big leagues by Littelfield and still struggles with his command at times being best described as raw, short, and young with great stuff. He’s a budding power pitcher with neutral BIP tendencies. His fastball has exceptional velocity (high 90’s while comfortably sitting at 93-94mph) which makes his hammer curve formidable. He’s yet to develop his change into a major league quality pitch and lefties give him difficulty. Given his lack of a third quality pitch, he may yet ultimately end up being an above average short reliever (much to Cueto's chagrin no doubt).

Seems like a strange day to give Jr a day off especially since Hamilton can't play. I wonder if it might have something to do with the likelihood that the outfield grass will probably be slick if they can get this one in?

Anyway,

GO REDS!

I am guessing Jim Tracy can supplement his income by auctioning off chances to start today. Talk about a series where a team has gotten healthy with the sticks...

Taking into account the fact that Griffey is getting the day off today (everyone needs a day off now and then), Narron got the lineup right today. I can't think of any changes or adjustments I would make.

Tracy, however, needs to move Bay up to #4, Nady up to #5, and drop LaRoche down to #6. But I guess he's "breaking up the righties" (Sanchez and Bay).

They showed Bay running in from LF yesterday when he was leading off the next inning. I'm not joking, he was moving. The look on his face was very similar to the one on a kids face when you tell them to get upstairs so Santa can come and leave them presents. He was motivated.

I would trade Dunn for Bay in nano-seconds.. I always have liked Bay and hope he is a future Red at some point!

hits for average, very good at defense, has power and a CLUTCH hitter

I'd really like to see Ross moved up in the order, especially when you have a Hopper in the lineup. He's OPSing well over .800 the last month...and is the kind of guy that would benefit greatly from some protection.

When do the Reds get to face an opponent without one of their top players in the lineup?

It's Saarloos' "versatility" that has allowed him to stick around in the majors this long.... his skillset was good in college and even the minors. It just doesn't translate into the majors very well.

He's simply not good enough to distinguish himself as better than the next guy for any one role... basically make him your fifth starter and there are 5 guys breathing down his neck. Put him in the pen and there are 20 guys breathing down his neck for his spot.
