Rotoworld had some good snark a couple of days ago concerning Dunn's place in the lineup. I'll post it here.

We're still wondering how many more runs the Reds would have scored this year if manager Jerry Narron didn't abandon the plan to bat Dunn second after six games. Dunn has been batting mostly sixth lately, but he's still leading the Reds with 14 homers, 32 RBI and 37 runs scored.

I've been meaning to get reports for the Astros staff up earlier but practices and games with the kids have taken priority.

Anyway, hopefully the Reds can chase Jennings before I have a chance to post the rest of the Astros' arms...

:beerme:

Jason Jennings (RH)
Stature: 6-2, 235 lbs; DOB: 07/17/78

Known for his filthy sinker (90-93 mph), Jennings is a ground ball pitcher who has marginal “make ‘em” miss ability while having some command issues. In addition to his signature pitch, Jennings also features an average fastball (88 mph), a good changeup, and an Achilles heel of a slider (that's not a good thing). He generally changes speeds to lefties while going inside on righties. Left-handed hitters tend to give him trouble so the Reds should be able to make hay with their left-handed strength. Jennings has an excellent pick off move to first and a good bat for a pitcher. However, he last pitched on April 8 because of a sore right elbow. Some are really enamored with Jennings. I just don't get it.

The odd thing is that last year Jennings was better at home than on the road, especially considering the pitchers parks that most of the NL west plays in. As FCB said though his career is trending better than Lohses at this point.

I'd wager that if the Reds possessed Jennings that they could pry Hughes and Cabrera away from the Yankees at the deadline; or Pelfrey and another arm from the Mets.

Keep the commodities flowing and growing larger each wave through if possible. It's a risky strategy, but it beats waiting on the Great Pumpkin, IMO.

Mets might be equally good a target. The way I see it, Bailey's two years away from reaching the majors--why not turn the competition clock up a year, while the Harang/Arroyo window still exists?

However, pointing out Jennings ERA to say he isn't a good pitcher is not fair. Until two years ago Coors field was the greatest ERA killer of all time. Jennings pitched half his games there for those who don't seem to realize that.

I would be ok with Jennings here....but trading Bailey for a guy like Jennings would be pointless and stupid.

Teams like the Yankees can trade away the farm because they'll spend 8 Gazillion dollars in Free Agency and bring in anybody they want....not working so much this year, but that's been the M.O. for years.

Teams like the Reds have to develop their talent and have a good farm system to build a winner.....it seems to be improving....the farm system that is.

It's a statistical certainty that several of the above listed Reds' prospects will fail. That's not me dogging the Reds' farm system--that's just certainty. A smart GM knows the numbers and knows which ones are going to fail and he capitalizes.

I agree, just saying those are the 4 I wouldn't deal for Jennings, maybe Votto if a prospect is with Jennings... No way Bruce or Bailey, may listen for Cueto...

Definitely, I am just stating his ERA and I realize Coors was hard to pitch in... take 2005 for example, here is Jennings Home/Away split... pretty similar, just saying... I do agree though about trading for Jennings, no Bailey, no Cueto, no Bruce, no Votto... Anyone else is fair game....

HOME/AWAY split:
I Split G GS GF W L S CG SHO IP ERA H R ER HR BB IBB SO HBP
+-+------------+---+--+--+--+--+--+--+---+-----+------+---+---+---+--+---+---+---+---+
Home 10 10 0 3 4 0 1 0 61 5.16 76 38 35 5 31 1 37 2
Away 10 10 0 3 5 0 0 0 61 4.87 54 35 33 6 31 3 38 3

Yeah, but Coors really messes with you all over. Kile was terrible when he went to Coors and the next year after he left as well. Mike Hampton took three years to recover from Coors.

You lose feel for pitches, the break on your pitches is so different its hard to control on the road.

That said, Bailey for him no. Bruce no way. Cueto maybe, probably yes. Votto definitely yes. But thats probably because the Reds first basemen of the future should be that guy in left field.
