Encarnacion 5
Castro 4
Ross 2
Harang 1

Did he write that line-up card while fetal? Or is it just presumed?

Phillips has a .375 average against Rodriguez so of course he sits tonight.

I think Narron filled the lineup card standing on his head. That's the only way it makes sense.

Young body is sporting a .645 OPS from the cleanup spot. There is a method to Jerry's madness. There just has to be.

Don't give him any ideas he still has 3 hours to make this worse. Junior has an .800 average (8 for 10) against Rodriquez. I am amazed he is in the lineup.

DiamondRat

How can he even think about shaking up the lineup after those two badly needed wins?

HotCorner
05-30-2007, 05:21 PM
At least Gonzalez is on one of his offensive "hot streaks". Here are his numbers over the last 7 games:

.379 | .419 | .793

Additionally Edwin is hitting better in the last week and showing signs of being the run producer a lot of us expected (7 RBI in past 7 games). Narron should have moved him to 4 and Conine to 6.

Pickin on Jerry again, everyone? Well, Conine's OBP right now is 103 points higher than EEs. EE's hitting has picked up since AAA, but the difference between him and Conine at cleanup is hardly monumental. EE still is a .658 OPS man.

Phillips had a rough night last night, two strikeouts (folks, those are not good), an error, no hits. Understand the respite. Hope no injury there.

Castro's .160 average is about 70 points below his lifetime mark, which is .231 (that's above the Mendoza line). At some point he will have a couple of good offensive games.

All this will be irrelevant if Harang comes through (or if the opposite happens).

Catchers bat 8th.

Nothing else matters to Narron as long as he gets to write the ole number 2 in the 8 hole. Juan Castro in the lineup, he of the sub .400 OPS (thats right, his OBP plus his slugging is around .400 or 94 points beow Bonds OBP or 130+ below Dunn's slugging) and he hits above Ross, well, because catchers bat 8th.

This from the Astros series preview thread (http://www.redszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58635):

Wandy Rodriguez (LH)
Stature: 5-11, 160lbs; DOB: 01/18/79
Question: what do you do with a pitcher who has below average velocity and poor command? Answer: If he’s left-handed, and you’re the Astros, you make him a starter (do they really have any left-handed arm in their system that others would covet?). Clearly “working on some things” as he goes, Rodriguez has groundball tendencies while featuring a power curve that is effective against both lefties and righties, a below average fastball (purportedly he can max a four seemer at 91mph on occasion) and an undistinguished changeup. Wandy appears to be turning a corner in ’07. Only time will tell if his pitchability has improved of if he’s due to regress to the mean (where he’s resembled something close to a tee in his young career).

Wandy has only had 3 bad outings all season (including his last one). That being said, when he's been bad, it's been bad bad. Harang on the other hand has been better than his ERA. I dunno, it could be a pitchers duel, a high scoring game or some where in the middle with the score being close or a blowout.

Go Good Guys!

Hopper cf
Phillips 2b
Griffey rf
Dunn lf
Encarnacion 3b
Conine 1b
Gonzalez ss
Ross c
Harang p

Or, if Phillips must sit (maybe he has flu-like symptoms):

Hopper cf

Dunn lf
Encarnacion 3b
Conine 1b
Ross c
Castro 2b
Harang p

Can we get a real manager sometime before the end of the decade?

Note to Jerry: Juan Castro shouldn't start. Ever. There are people on this board who could put up the same numbers as he does, and probably do it for peanuts.

Jerry simply can't stand prosperity.

Its stuff like that last night and this type of lineup that simply won't allow a team he manages to win consistently over 162 games.

Even when they don't lose, like last night, he's actively trying to find ways to do it.

Ahh well, I try not to blame a guy for just being himself. I blame the guy who keeps him employed.

This is from Trent's blog about Ashley Judd

Ashley Judd is a Reds fan, she said. I get all the hard-hitting interviews for you guys. Her husband, Dario Franchitti -- winner of the Indy 500, is throwing out the first pitch tonight. She took Jerry Narron's glove and caught a few balls for Tom Hume, who was hitting fungoes for infield practice. Saw Hume after she left and asked him if he'd be able to hit fungoes without his assistant, he said he'd manage somehow.

Since the AAA assignment, EE really looks good defensively. A couple of real nice plays this inning. He is avoiding rushed throws to first and has been pretty much on the money. Good to see.

Not to kick Freel in the head, but IMO Hopper is a better lead off hitter than Ryan.

When Freel comes back he could very likely go back to his utility role, thus eliminating the need for Juan Castro as a RED.

Several scenario's could put Juan off the team, not the least of which is his pitcheresque sub-400 OPS. Hamilton takes over center permanently. Hopper takes over as the 4th outfielder pushing Freel into the superhuman 2nd-SS-3rd-5thOF utility person.
