ESPN: Mesa Released (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2892176)

CLEVELAND -- The Detroit Tigers released right-hander Jose Mesa after their 9-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday.

Right-hander Fernando Rodney, sidelined since May 21 with tendinitis in his right biceps, is expected to be activated Tuesday before the Tigers open a three-game series in Texas against the Rangers.

Mesa, signed as a free agent in December, went 1-1 with a 12.34 ERA in 16 appearances for Detroit, his eighth club in a major league career that began 20 years ago with the Baltimore Orioles.

"They gave me a chance and I didn't do my job," Mesa said, adding that he would like to continue pitching. "I'll see what is out there and if there's nothing, I'll go home and relax. If this is it, I'm happy with [my career]."

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I'm hoping we don't go back to last summer's throw stuff at the wall and hope it sticks plan. If we do, Mesa could be in a Reds uniform sooner than we think.

I'm happy with my career! Ask Omar Vizquel and see if he's happy with your career. Nice job in the 95 & 97 World Series. Especially the last game agianst the Marlins and Edgar Renteria.

I was in a dorm at The Ohio State University for the 97 Series. There were a bunch of Indians fans on my floor. I made a killing taking the Fish in the Series. Of course, not many people would talk to me the rest of the quarter.

I pray that Mr. Krivsky utters this word, "No."

It would be a complete waste to sign someone like him and give him a chance when we have young power arms that we should be giving ample opportunities to show us if they can pitch in this league or not

mesa and stanton would make a potent righty lefty combo, jump on it while the opportunity is ripe. What a heist if the Reds could grab Mesa, maybe Chris Hammond could be the set up man
