Let me explain my thinking. I realize that LF is the sun field, and that at this time of the day, it is very difficult to see out there. But to the "casual fan" (i.e, the fan that doesn't pay close attention to the club and who only attends 0-2 games a season), it appears that Dunn loafed and did not give much effort on the play. I know otherwise, but unfortunately, perception often becomes the new reality.

I think Thom was channelling George Grande - "Get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in."

JBrantley pretty much sounds like he feels it was Adam's fault that he was unable to see the ball off the bat. He's mentioned it twice.

Geeesh!

This comes up all the time during home games, and Adam isn't the only one who's lost the ball in the sun. For Pete's sake, it absolutely pounds the OF this time of night.

Personally, it would behoove the Reds to start the games at 7:35, then it wouldn't be a problem.

On a couple occasions, the top of the first has been long because of this problem, then the opposition takes the field and it's no longer a problem. Homefield advantage? Not hardly.

I didn't notice, but it doesn't matter. If a batter is hit by a pitch that bounces before it hits him, he still gets credited with a HBP.

It is amazing how many excuses there are for Dunn especially since the trade rumors started. The new "casual fan" excuse is becoming quite humorous, as it is almost like Dunn is some complex algorithm that only the sabermetric crew can fully understand.

Not pointing out anyone in particluar, just the Figgins hit was the topper of a few days worth of ridiculous posts. My disclaimer is that I did not see the play, as I boycotted Extra Innings this season when Cablevision wanted to charge me full price when availability started in the 2nd week of May.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I'm not advocating or speaking against any trade. But I just sat through three games at GABP over the weekend, and I had to endure listening to the "uneducated masses" waxing eloquent about how much Dunn sucks because he strikes out too much, only hits homers when the Reds are "10 runs up or 10 runs down" (their quote, not mine), and plays lousy defense (OK, they might have gotten one right).

I'm just saying those fans would just explode over their perceived lack of effort by Dunn on the first play of the game tonight.

I don't believe players are credited with RBIs on double plays. CBS Sportsline's game tracker is screwy because it gives them one, at least at first.

Decent throw by Dunn, though.EE wasn't on the bag(he was a couple of feet toward LF), the throw beat the runner but he had to reach to tag the guy. If they had got Cabrera at 3rd they still could have gotten out of the inning

Which two did you have?

Expected Ichiro to be on there, and Vlad made sense since they were playing the Angels tonight. Should've thought of Jeter, but blew that one. Never would've thought of Young or Pierre.

For those interested, just checked the minor league thread. Cueto and Garnder so far have pitched a combined 12 innings tonight in their games without allowing an earned run. Sure is nice to see hope on the horizon.

How is it the Reds have an 8 inning ghost yet havent given up a lead after the 8th in over 80 some games?

The key, as I see it is, have a friggin lead. Its THAT simple!

But..the Angels are the type of team to hop all over a guy who depends on his fastball.

The Reds simply lost to a better team tonight. They have better pitching, better 'D', better hitting. Over the long-term the Angels will simply beat the Reds because they have better players. (Famous shrug)

This is the first time I've seen McBeth (the pitcher, not the play) and I have to say that I liked what I saw. Let's see what he can do after a couple of times through the order and a couple of times through the league.
