Jerry Narron was probably just getting ready to type that.

RedFanAlways1966
06-16-2007, 05:23 PM
BTW... I mentioned this before yesterday's game. With yesterday's loss to the Rangers, the REDS have now had 45 consecutive series' without a sweep of the opposing team in a series.

Boston (not the Red Sox) might say, "It's been such a long time..."

Yep. Another consistency since this lineup has been seen is the pitching. Consistently bad. 22 earned runs in the last 3 games (6, 9 & 7).

That Moeller/Valentine/Ross/Castro combo just kills this team.

It would be great if we could get a decent enough catcher to get rid of the 3-headed monster, and use someone from AAA to replace Castro as the backup SS.

I wonder how Keppinger's doing at SS. They've been playing him there this year, I assume to take over for Castro.

Harang swung at what looked like ball 3 on his bunt and he could barely hit it all.......he should have waited for a better pitch to bunt. That...along with this team's inability to put away this piece of garbage pitcher (Besides Griffey)
and Harang's bad command is going to lose another game and pretty much sum up this team's ....just good enough to lose play.

Give Narron a break. He does have some obligation to try to win these games. Going to the bullpen is not exactly a welcome thought at this point.

He pushed Harang as far as he could go. He pitched about 120 which is high, but not crazy for Harang.

Now we all hold our collective breath.

1) Deno wouldn't help this team this season, as he is done until '08.

They may suffice for this year, but they sure as heck won't for 2008. There is no one in the upper minors even close to suggest help. I realize that Votto is shagging down in Louisville, but he is a first baseman. Wayne better get some outfield help back, or only trade one of the two, or we ware talking 2010 for competing.

(If you can not tell, I do not like or trust free agency. If a team is letting someone go it is either because they are not good, or are too expensive, neither of which I want.)

1) Deno wouldn't help this team this season, as he is done until '08.

2) If both Dunn and Jr are traded, then they wouldn't need much in the way of OFers. It would be known as a "fire sale". Hopper, Freel (God willing) and Hamilton will suffice in a time like that just fine.
Hmmm. Where would the 170-200 RBI's be made up? You can't pull those out of the air. That is, unless you want to lose 2 of 3 every series. Of course, if you don't mind losing and losing bad, go ahead and trade them for the nothing or prospects you'll get for them.

What are they losing now, 1.95 of 3 every series? What's the difference?

Bottom line is that these guys will not be here when Cincy will finally put a winning product on the field. You might as well get some people who will be here in 5 years when they have a better shot.

Aaron Boone had heart. I would venture to say that the Reds lost a lot of there's when they traded him. Out of curiosity, does anyone have the pythag numbers for the Reds since 2003, and how they have performed in comparison? I hypothesize that they have underperformed since his departure.

How was a PH going to knock the other team out? The bases were clear....you have a 4 run lead....you really did not need a PH there.

I blame WK for having 12 pitchers on this team....when only 11 are needed anyways. Santos is used once or twice a week......some of these arms can go 2 innings....and JN needs to quit the constant pitching changes he has been doing.
Having 12 pitchers has made him turn into LaRussa.

Good grief.....you are complaining about Narron's use of the bullpen tonight?

Besides trying to squeeze too mcuh from Harang....he worked the bullpen perfectly........I whined about the over doing of the pitching changes...but in this case it worked beacuse the pitchers did their jobs.

He tried to extend Salmon....which was great.....but he could not finish it up.
Not Narron's fault.

I think people are so used to complaining about Narron about anything and everything....that they start to really nitpick and reach for things to get on him about.

30 hits and 14 runs in 2 games, we're pounding Texas pitching. If only Belisle could take the one pitch back...

This team is playing much, much better baseball of late. Once interleague play is over, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see a 5 or 6 game winning streak.

Hopefully they can create a spot at 1B for Votto, continue pitching the young guys in the pen, and really start to build for next year and beyond.

For the record, I supported the decision to allow Stanton to hit for himself after Ross hit the three-run homer. My reasoning was twofold:

1) I wanted Stanton to start the next inning by pitching to Catalanotto.

2) As others have mentioned, the Reds have only a five-man bench. I saw no reason to burn a PH there when they may be needed later in the game. (Especially when I wanted Stanton back out there.) I also think that 12 pitchers are too many--but that's another thread.

Unfortunately, it appears that Stanton pulled a hamstring while running out his ground ball--an unforeseen circumstance.

To give Narron credit (and that's a hard thing for me), his intention was to bring Stanton out for the 7th inning and then the hamstring thing came up. It says a lot for Stanton. His overweight body was hustling to first, something that a guy over 40 should avoid (just ask me). I give Stanton a lot of flak, but the guy wants to win so bad. Should Krivsky have spent the money on him? No. Is he a gamer? No doubt. I respect him for that.

Things worked out, but old bodies break down. It's something Krivsky should consider as he looks at the roster for the future.

I completely agree. I love Stanton's passion for playing the game and his desire to win, I just wish that he was displaying that passion with a bad contract for another team.
