At least in the NFL you can claim you're playing for a draft pick.

Apathy [ap-uh-thee] -
noun, plural -thies.
1. absence or suppression of passion, emotion, or excitement.

I gave up on tonight when Narron sacrificed Phillips to move Hatteberg to third with no outs.

Goodness. Telling him to make sure he hits the ball to the right side is one thing, to give up an out is criminal.

Marty railing on the No. 4 hitter.

Question...why would you worry about moving the runner over since the Reds hits so poorly with RISP? If they score, more often than not, it's via the HR, so what does it matter what base they're on? Just asking.

Good answer.

The difference between a last baseball club and another club:
A last place club will place a man on third with the cleanup coming up. Cleanup pops up, no run.
Other clubs will place a man on third - and someone besides the cleanup will come up. Other batter flies out, run scores.

Doing the little things: The difference between last and not being last. The Reds have been infamous for not doing the little things for several years, now - and it is starting to get quite painful.

Lohse is lucky that Molina only got a sac fly off the ball and not a 3-run homerun.

Other teams routinely fail in the same situations -- you just don't follow other teams 162 games a year the way you do the Reds.

I had the priviledge of seeing Thomas play a lot. He definately is a hall of famer. However, his interaction with the media hasn't always been the best and all his time as a DH may keep him from making it the first time. I would disagree with that, but could see it happening.

If Reds hold on they will have finished the first half 31 and 50. Translates to 62 and 100. Hundred losses.

In their recap ESPN mentions that the 2005 Reds also were 31-50.

And the 2005 Reds were better than the 2007 version. Wow. What improvement.

I would like to remind everyone not to get googly-eyed about Kyle Lohse tonight. He is nothing but a tease--but hopefully, if he can string together a couple more outings like this one, the Reds can trade him and he can be someone else's tease.

So true. Lohse is Jeckyl and Hyde. One start he's Superman and the enxt start he's Truman Capote. His overall stats don't look too bad, but in the end, he's not effective. Time to cut another Minnesota reject and our losses.

In a perfect world, last night would have been his showcase, and he would virtually be on the way to another team before he makes a start. Every start he makes after this one has more of a potential to decrease his trade value than increase it.
Unfortunately, in this world, I think he will get a few more chances. I even have the fear that "the right offer won't come along", and Wayne will stick with him - but I hope that fear is unfounded.

Did anyone else hear Brantley tell his story about his curveball tonight? It was hilarious! He said that as a young college pitcher he was very proud of his big, breaking curve because he could see the break from the mound. Well, his coach at Mississippi State asked him, "If you can see the break, don't you think the batter can, too?" He said, "I guess so. I hadn't thought of that." Then his coach said, "Shorter is better." And Brantley then replied, "Not in my experience!" Then both Brantley and George laughed. (Though I don't think George knew what he was laughing about!)

Not even to the all-star break and already we're talking about Brantley's weiner size...... yes folks it's time to.....
