Lineup per C Trent:

Freel 3b

Hopper batting 2nd. It's scraptastic!

Well, at least the Mets won't pitch around Dunn..........

I think Petey Mac draws numbers for his lineup construction the way some Catholic churches call Bingo Night.

Guess its "manufacturing runs" time.

11 Reds have at least 100 AB.

OBP
1. Hatteberg, .407
2. Griffey, .391
3. Hamilton, .371
4. Dunn, .355
5. EE, .348
6. Conine, .326
7. Hopper, .323
8. Phillips, .322
9. Freel, .307
10. Gonzalez, .295
11. Ross, .248

SLG
1. Griffey, .566
2. Dunn, .544
3. Hamilton, .543
4. Hatteberg, .489
5. Phillips, .478
6. Gonzalez, .442
7. Conine, .412
8. Ross .401
9. EE, .385
10. Freel, .361
11. Hopper, .339

Now I see how it works. Hitting high in the order isn't about getting on base. It's about not having any power whatsoever.

I'm beginning to wonder if anyone remotely identified with this franchise can pick a manager...

Bowden - Boone
Bowden - Miley
O'Brien - Narron
Krivsky - Narron
Macklanin (not fair, I know).

All basically have done the same thing leading me to believe that maybe, just maybe, all the good managers are gone.

Haven't seen it anywhere, but the token Pirate that took Brandon Phillips' spot on the All-Star game wasn't as bad as Beltran being an All-Star instead of Phillips. Beltran has been a joke since May 1st, while Phillips has been elite among 2nd baseman all year. Nice to see him get the slam today while Beltran continues to struggle (except for the hit-and-run he just had).

Beltran's numbers are down this year, but considering he plays in Shea, I'd say 16 homers, .815 OPS is pretty solid for a CF who plays solid defense.

.815 OPS is horrible for an All-Star. There's not a position called "CF" in the All-Star voting. It's just "Outfielder", and his .812 OPS currently ranks him 16th among National League Outfielders. He had no business being in the All-Star game.

On reputation he gets in as he's one of the best. But, I always hate how New York Mets players get so much ink. They are always overated, just like was predicted here at the beginning of the season that 2/3rd's of New York's outfielders would miss significant playing time, making them ineffective, not to mention how old they are which would make them also ineffective, yet all the publications out there had there's to be the best in the NL. Well, it's not the case and shouldn't have been at the beginning of the year. Of course, Shawn Green would be injured and ineffective. Of course Moises Alous would be injured and ineffective, too.

Tom Seaver was 11-6 near the break for the last place Mets in 1967. Steve Carlton was 12-6 in 1972. I'm sure there are folks who could rattle off pitchers who had had steller years for stinky teams. I'm glad to see Harang doing so well thus far.

I m issed tonight's game for a number of reasons, one of those being I wasn't home tonight, but I listened on the car radio.

It baffles me that we have a leadoff hitter who can score 3 runs while getting only one hit. When has that ever happened before? David Ross is back on the interstate. Does anyone else have a starting catcher who is hitting that poorly. Only one I can remember was way back in 1961 when the Reds, hurting for a catcher, put Johnny Edwards in the lineup and he hit .186 for the season. He didn't have Ross' pop, but he was the starter. We need a catcher. Bad.

I liked Mackanin's handling of Harang tonight. 107 pitches and out. Aaron didn't have his best stuff tonight, but got through 6 innings, stuck out 8 and proved he is one of the best in the league even with sub-par stuff. You can bet Narron would have had him in the game in the 7th to throw another 20 olr so pitches.

Why any manager in his right mind brings Mike Stanton into a game is beyond me. I guess the big lead was part of it, but the guy is Chris Hammond and many others like him--slow stuff that if timed goes yard. What Krivsky saw in him is a mystery. I hate that because he seems to be a nice guy and it really gets to him when he's not succesful. Coutlangus is improving with every appearance. He's a keeper.

Brandon Phillips is something. In Webster's dictionary under the heading "streak hitter", you might find Brandon's picture. He's hot right now so let's keep him in the top of the order. The challenge is to drop him when he goes into one of his funks.

All in all a good game and puts Pete at 6-2. He's making it too easy for Wayne Krivsky to appoint him manager for 2008 (which is what most of us didn't want), but as I said in this thread earlier, I have to wonder who would be better. If we are to look inward for managers (Boone, Miley, Narron, and Mackanin), who's better? I don't know, but maybe someone should look at that track record and do a real search for a manager. Accordingly, if Pete maintains his .750 winning percentage (making the Reds go 61-21 for a 92-70 season), who could deny him the job? Scary, isn't it?

Did anyone else catch Brantly asking Fey in the 2nd inning why Moeller is even on the team? He even scoffed at the idea of Moeller as a pinch hitter. Fey stumbled around trying to offer up a reason but didn't really have any.

Glad to see we aren't the only ones that find Chad to be a waste of baseball space.

Moeller is on the team because there is an empty roster space and pretty much no one else available.

DanO would have never brought Moeller up. He would have had them play with 24.

Methinks that since Kepp and Lopez are up, they should get a spot start or two. Gonzo could certainly use a rest (he looks hurt).

I think your right on that. Wise is injured and there really is no one else to call upon. Besides it's until Monday basically from what I can tell.
