BTW, any news on Josh's injury?

Josh is eligible to come off the DL next week. His next exam is I believe next Thursday. So we should know more then.

Here's what Pete had to say about Griffey getting a day off: "We had a discussion with Griff, Mark Mann and I yesterday, we all agreed that from here on down, we’re going to pick spots for him to take days off here and there. He’s not getting any younger. He’s going to remain productive, but we’ve got to make sure he doesn’t tire out. Like with Conine and Hatteberg, when it works out well with the older guys, it’s good for him. It’s good for Kenny to keep him as strong as possible because of what he can do for us."

Pete said it would be when things kind of work out for it. ANd it will mostly be against lefties.

Also, Pete said David Weathers wouldn't pitch today. We asked who the closer would be and he said he wasn't sure yet.

Officially off (though never was on) the Pete M bandwagon. This lineup coupled with the refusal to pull Lohse early in the game is just poor. Maybe Sarloos gives up 15, but I send a message that the inability to locate a pitch is not a qualification to be in a starting rotation. Maybe Pete just conceded this game from the get go.

BTW, I think JB has something personal against Lohse.

And when you get right down to it (especially for Lohse), who cares? I don't know of any starting pitcher in the organization that he is blocking. So if you cut Lohse (who I don't like) he's just going to be replaced by similar, albeit less expensive garbage. Really the same for Stone. Do we have a ML ready mop up guy waiting to come up? I posted earlier that I dislike the way Pete handles the roster, but as far as the current state of roster construction (specifically speaking to the pitching) it's not getting any better until A) we trade the few marketable pieces we have for it or B) we wait about 3 more years for DanO's guys to be ready.

WVRedsFan

Today (or last night, as it were), we saw the Real Reds. Lohse was Lohse and didn't do anything for his trade value (and I believe they are desparate to trade him), We saw an offense that can score gobs of runs on one night and not many on the next. We saw a bullpen that allowed many runs. A 10-2 loss was the result.

For those that saw some light at the end of the tunnel, amybe this was disheartening, I don't know, but to me it was proof positive that moves need to be made. Pete Macklanin is not the savior nor is Billy Bray or anyone else. This team needs a complete overhaul regardless of the record ovedr the last 15 games. Unfortunately, I have doubts that the FO sees it that way, but no matter. The next ten days will be very important to the future of this franchise. It's well known that I have no confidence in those who will be making those decisions, but they will be made soon. Let's hope for the best.

Conine waited until the 97th game of the year to hit a HR on the road.

But is a game in Miami really a road game for Conine, a.k.a. "Mr. Marlin"? :D

For the record, I like Jeff Conine. I think he is a good veteran backup 1B who provides some pop off the bench and is a good right-handed complement for Scott Hatteberg in the first base platoon. That being said, I do not like him in the #3 spot in the batting order. I think that he is better suited for the #6 spot when he plays, though with the way Edwin Encarnacion has struggled vs. LHP this season, I can live with Conine at #5 and Edwin at #6 against lefties.
