I'd have to think the Twins scout is looking at Adam Dunn, I wonder if they'd give us Joe Nathan for Dunn? Nathan's contract is up after 2008 and they most likely are not going to resign him. They also have this young kid, Neshek who they think can be a good closer right now. We could use some of the money we have in the offseason to give Nathan an extention.

i would jump all over Nathan! that would be a very very nice dominant reliever that is much needed!

pass on Nathan. If the Reds were ready to contend this year or next.....heck yes. But they aren't.

In my opinion, a good bullpen is the only thing holding the Reds back from winning the weak NL Central in 2008.

You think the Twins will pay Dunn but not Nathan?

Maybe they want to make a run this year and they think Dunn would take them over the top. Neshek makes up for the Nathan loss, he's that good. And their adding about 40 more runs batted in the final 3 months with Dunn. Their scout hasn't been following the Reds for 3 straight series for nothing...

maybe the Twins could acquire Kyle Lohse

You make some good points, and I agree with you.

BTW, not trying to be a jerk here, but there's no apostrophe in want. :)

if they were trying to make a run this year wouldn't they keep nathan though?

Hard as this may be to believe; I read on the ORG the Twins are interested in Conine for a Single-A prospect. It could be they are scouting Conine.

They have a guy who can replace him now though in Neshek. Look at his numbers, he is dominating. So if they can get a guy to replace Nathan AND add 15-20 home runs and 40-50 RBI why not do it?

I will say this though, as I'v been thinking about this, I think their scout is looking at Edwin Encarnacion. I could see a Slowey for Encarnacion swap. It makes sence for them too becuase they're getting a young 3rd basemen that they control for the next 3 years and they're giving us a young pitching prospect. It seems like a fair deal to me.

They have to know Conine only plays vs lefties though. Would they really send a scout to watch the Reds for 2 weeks to watch Conine when they know he'll play 3 times a week max. Couldn't they scout Conine on tv?

I read this on "Minn Star Tribune, Twins might want Conine , Dimitri" on the ORG. All of you consider reading that thread, and then consider the possibility. They may have scouts following for another reason, though. They are already familiar with Conine and are unlikely to be scouting him.

This may be tough for some of you to understand......ya know, based on the fact that the Reds are lucky to have 1 guy in the pen at any given time who can work an effective inning, but Neshek doesn't make Nathan expendable for a team trying to win this year. Good teams typically happen to have at least TWO good relievers in the pen at a time. If you've only been following Reds baseball, then you prob don't know this, but the guy who comes in before the closer is called the set-up man, and can be just as valuable, if not more valuable at times than the closer. Class dismissed.

Juan Rincon and Matt Guerrier are very effective relievers.

Maybe the Twins feel at this time Dunn's offence would help the team more than Nathan's pitching. I have a sneaky suspicion they're looking at Encarnacion anyway.

Krivsky dealing with the Twins sniffs of conspiracy. Much like when they dealt us Juan Castro. I've grown so skeptical I simply can't trust the man.

I don't think they would do a salary swap. I do however think they may give up Nathan for Dunn this year, negotiate a contract with Dunn and then either trade or let Hunter walk. Then it's a give up Nathan and Hunter's salary for Dunn. That I think they would do.
