Most likely we'd only get a prospect for Conine if we took Jones' contract off the Cubs hands.

If I were you I would change the title of this thread and put Rumor on the end. I would of made a mess in my pants if I didn't already read about it before I came here.

Adding salary? That has to mean something else is coming. I can't see adding an OF contract for next year if one of either A) Dunn is about to be traded or B) his option wasn't going to be exercised anyway are true. I'm not 100% sold on either of them. The return just not be right to justify a trade and like it or not (and I mostly think not) $13 million for a 40 homer guy, despite the defense, isn't a terrible deal for next year.

Additionally, trading Conine for Jones just makes this team more left handed. It just doesnt' make much sense.

That would be a steal for us, getting an outfielder and a prospect for Conine. However, I would have preferred a righthander, but we will need another outfielder if we trade Dunn. I would think the Cubs would pick up most of Jones salary if they want to move him.

Wonder how good of a prospect we could snatch? The Cubbies don't seem to value prospects much since they just traded a good one for a washed up Catcher.

Great, another LH OF bat, just what we need.

I agree. It is only a rumor. During this time of year, people need to know the difference between fact and fiction.

I'd much rather trade him for a High A prospect or possibly a Double A prospect that shows some promise.

I don't follow you BLEEDS. What does Byrnes have to do with a Jacque Jones rumor? Is it that they are a similar type of player?

means if we're going to talk about a LF-er, to replace Dunn, it should be ERIC BYRNES!!!

Jacque Jones is Dunn Lite, same flaws, less production, cheaper. We want to at least INCREASE in one area (other than cheaper) don't we?

B-R, Jacque Jones in GABP:

.254/.315/.351

Maybe he could get a tad of a GABP boost if he came here IRL, but that line is pretty bleak.

the Cubs can keep Jones

It would make sense if we were somehow able to trade Jones to Florida. (The Cubs and Marlins had a deal, but Jones failed the physical). At this point, anything cheap for Conine would make sense because he won't be back next year, meaning a deal for Jones wouldn't be smart in my opinion.

Jacque Jones is a thirty-two year old mediocrity. Therefore Krivsky's probably trying to get him. I can't see the point of any more such moves.

I cant see any good reason to acquire Jones....the Cubs don't even want him..maybe if its a package for another player is all i can think of

The only reason I can see is if

A) The Cubs pay the largest majority of his contract. Absolute must. And then they think that...

B) He can Rich Aurilia it. Aurilia had 30 HR power, fell off the table, sucked and probably also had a SLG around 390~, then came here and lit it up.

I actually wouldn't mind it. Jacque hit 28 homers for the Cubs last year, and he does have some power.

If you could get him AND a prospect, I'd do it.

Left field when Dunn leaves (just guessing)

I think this move only happens if Dunn is traded. If they don't feel Bruce will be ready to start next season in Cincinnati they could use Jones as the stop gap. He's only 5 million, if we wanted to go out and sign a Mike Cameron or someone like that for one year until Bruce is ready that could cost 8-10 million. I wouldn't mind this trade.

I really think that if Jones comes here, it will only be as a temporary stopgap if Dunn is traded and not a long-term solution. If they are considering him as a long-term solution, then that's a problem in my opinion.

It really would not make much sense to trade for Jones, unless they are really looking to trade Dunn.

the Cubs can keep Jones
I second that notion. Just go to any Cubs forum and scroll down to a Jacque Jones post and the local Cubs fans (99%) want Jacque Jones gone as soon as possible!!!

No need for JJ in Cincinnati.

Say it with me again- "We need pitching" first and foremost. Then we need hitters that make contact and will hustle regardless of the situation. Then get a catcher that doesn't require the Reds to have 3 catchers on this team. Let's start with that. Address it Wayne Krivsky and go on from there. Oh yeah, Beware of Jim Bowden! I heard Krivsky tell Paul Dougherty on WLW Sportstalk Monday evening that he would trade with any GM (this answer came when Doc asked him if he would trade with the Nationals/Bowden again). And in my mind I thought I heard WK (in Goofy's voice say - Duhhh Yelp, Uhhh Huhh, Uhhh Huhh. My heart was racing in a panick!!!

Of course Conine wouldn't bring the above by himself but he could be included in a deal to make that happen.

I have no interest in Jacque, but I certainly wouldn't mind adding Matt Murton to the Reds. I think he'd be a great addition, as he is just the kind of hitter the Reds need. Not a huge power hitter, but a nice well rounded game. Not to mention, he seems lost in the shuffle in ChiTown.

I went to a Cubs board to see what the Cubs fans thought about this. Pretty funny to read the contrast. Cubs fans think that they will be getting ripped off, and Reds fans think that they'll be the ones getting fleeced.
