Castro will be available for emergency situations only, and will likely be headed back to the DL when Gonzalez returns.

Lopez has a broken cheeck bon3.

He's probably only there for "emergency" purposes until Gonzalez is activated. There are no other IF on the 40 and they probably don't want to risk losing someone. I think Gonzalez may be available tomorrow.

Gonzalez was back with the team on Tuesday, why not activate him?

He still should be able to field the ball in an emergency

They say they want him to get ABs before being activated but they did not send him on a rehab assignment?

That was the plan, but they weren't counting on Lopez getting drilled in the face. I would suspect that given the situation, Gonzalez would prefer to stay around here this weekend (where is son is being treated) rather than going down to Louisville for some ABs. Not sure why Gonzalez couldn't have been on emergency duty today, other than they had already planned on him being off today. He's enough of a vet that he shouldn't have to do that after only being off a couple of weeks.

Will emergency situations include pinch hitting for Griffey or Dunn?

I thought Castro was out for the year. Is he feeling well enough to play in an emergency?

It's likely he won't even play even during an emergency.

It also should be noted that Louisville is playing in Scranton and it's no short drive up from Chattanooga. With a 12:35 start, not likely they could get anybody up even if they wanted.

Marty and Thom reported tha Matt Wise took it upon himself to drive to the hospital late last night to apologize to Lopez. Class move.

He was not actually with the team, he just stopped by the ballpark for a workout before the players even showed up.

The decision for him to return is also probably entirely up to him, as it should be.

Marty discussed this with John Fay during the broadcast. Fay thinks Gonzalez will be back within a couple of days. Reaffirmed that Castro is for emergency only and still expects him to back on the DL and have surgery.
