I posted these notes on the wrong game thread. Let me re-direct them here.

It's 70's night at the GABP. Steve Stewart and Chris doing the game in their 70's garb. Welsh has a huge kinda 80's rock look wig on it's pretty comical, what's funny is it seems to fit him.

Welsh - The aforementioned huge wig, a kinda orange silk-ish shirt, a peace necklace and a pr of purple shaded John Lennon glasses.

Stewart - No wig, the shades, and what looks to be a tye-dye members only jacket. Uh disregard that's more of a suit jacket.

And according to Lance it's a sellout. Know what that means, Cubs fans out the wazoo!

Looking at the bright side here. The longer he's delayed in 2007, the later in 2008 he makes an appearance on the roster. Maybe we should keep him out there all year since 2007 is lost anyway. It would help 2008 for him to be on the DL all year.

The Reds lost the game when Aaron Harang "couldn't finish his pitches" on the second throw to David Ross in warmups. That should have been a sign. Turn the game over to the bullpen and you get 8 innings, 8 hits, 6 runs, 5 walks and a 6.75 ERA. Nasty.

And the offense didn't help which show how much poison leftys are to the Reds. Compound that with a night you don't play Griffey and the team leaves 24 runners on base. Phillips and Dunn go 0-8 and David Ross got off the insterstate with a round .200 average (rivaling him as the worst hitting catcher since Johnny Edwards who batted .186 for the 1961 season). Nasty.

Tomorrow, it's Belisle vs. Zambrano. Nasty.

I thought Steve Stewart did a really nice job doing play-by-play with Chris Welsh. He is knowledgable about the club, and he seemed very comfortable work with the Crafty Lefthander. If George Grande ever leaves, I would hope that Stewart would be considered to replace him.

I have been critical of Grande in the past, but he is a genuinely nice and knowledgable guy who is well-respected in the industry and the world of baseball. My prayers go out to him and his family in their time of grief.

As one of Steve Stewart's biggest critics last year, let me step in here and say that his work tonight was very good and proves he was not suited for radio. Stewart needs someone to bounce ideas and phrases off of, and the radio format of Marty going AWOL during the innings he doesn't do PBP just didn't work. BTW, it doesn't work for Jeff Brantley either. Given the lone guy on a broadcast, Stewart just doesn't keep me interested enough to listen. In fact, i've turned him off. Tonight, the banter between Welsh and Stewart was good and made for a nice broadcast (or telecast if you prefer).

As I said earlier, sympathy to George Grande and his family on their loss. I've given Grande a lot of grief over the years, but I'd like to see a three-headed TV (four if you add Thom) crew whereby all of them do some innings. It get tiring listening to only Grande and Welsh and I think the radio lineup of Marty, Thom, Joe, and Jeff has been pretty successful.

Phillips and Dunn go 0-8 and David Ross got off the insterstate with a round .200 average (rivaling him as the worst hitting catcher since Johnny Edwards who batted .186 for the 1961 season). Nasty.

Hey now, that was Edwards rookie year, he only got in 52 games. He did lead the team in hitting in the World Series massacre with the Skankees, though.

He had several good years after that at the dish before he suddenly and inexplicably lost his stroke and about half his playing time in '65 and '66 to Pavletich. Then some dude from Oklahoma came around and took his job.
