Coffey was Todd-awful once again. He comes in with a man on and immediately gives up a bomb. He puts two more runners on via a walk and a hit batsman before being mercifully yanked. Turnabout was fair play as Gosling gives up a blast to the first batter he faces, which allowed the two runners he inherited from Todd to score. What has happened to Todd Coffey? One option is that he is sent to Louisville to work out whatever problems he has down in AAA. IMO, a better option is the let him take the rest of the year off. He has to be shell-shocked. The Reds should just tell him to go home for the rest of the season and forget about 2007.

Can anyone tell me what was so bad about Cormier? He was better than Coffey, and since we were paying him a fortune maybe we let the wrong guy go. Wayne, please trade Coffey to the Cubs!

he has been terrible when brought in when we have a lead. This severly limits the oppurtunities he's gonna get. and we all thought on here he was a future closer wow were we wrong. He just seems to choke in tight spots. He just pumps the fastball up there entirely to much.

i'll chip in............
LOL
I just had a great idea....................i would love to get as many people on board as possible to all go to a game the same night, and have "Coffey Cup" night.......everybody wears a cup outside of their pants with a picture of Coffey on them........Extra bonus points if you wear some form of full body padding (think karate sparring stuff) and sit in the outfield seats.

Why does he need a ticket? Just let him sprint like a frickin moron down to Louisville like he always does to the mound.

You asked "what has happened to Todd Coffey?"
My answer is: was he what many thought he was to start with ?
I mean last year was respectable but was it the year before he gave up 84 hits in 56 ip or something thereabouts.
I am just saying maybe he is what he is (now).

I don't hate Coffey, but he does need to spend the rest of the year in Louisville and try to sort himself out. I want to see him start fresh next year in spring training.

Fixed that for you.

I understand your feelings about Coffey. However, he did have a 3.58 era last year. It has jumped 2.5 runs to 6.04 this year. It is possible he simply had a terrible year, and I think he should be given a second chance in spring training to show he is still the player he was in 2006. He has dug a big hole for himself, and he should be given the opportunity to dig himself out.

It's also possible he was getting lucky last year........not too many effective RP's have a career WHIP above 1.40

that is a hilarious visual. i would love Mac to change his mind in the middle of coffey's sprint and point him to to the dugout. that would suffice after all the painful outings we've been forced to sit through this season.

enough about his running, what about his pitching?...send him back to AAA?

AA seems more appropriate.

He has the arm and the pitches, but he doesn't have it between the ears. He needs to be sent down to work on his command.

Does anyone remember Brad "the animal" Lesley ?
He would growl, snarl, hollar, etc and that was his trademark.
Of course he was pitching great. Then when he started to slide back, the act didnt do much for people.
Well I know this is just something Coffey probably has done forever but when you are pitching like he is, it just brings extra attention to himself.
To me, if a guy is going to have a "gimmick" like that, you better be pretty good !
At least an era in the 3's and not in the 6's

Every year he has given up more hits than ip. I just dont understand from these #'s why anyone thinks he will be that good of a pitcher. I mean he can improve but I still see him being very very hittable.
basically these #'s are ip-h-era-whip-ba
2005 CIN 58.0 84 4.50 1.64 .344
2006 CIN 78.0 85 3.58 1.44 .274
2007 CIN 44.2 61 6.04 1.75 .324 :help:

Some one need to stop him from running in it is that simple
pitches 1-15 hitters are hitting .378
after 15 pitches (after he catches his breathe) .213

That is true- he will need to reduce the number of hits he gives up if he wants to be successful in the bullpen.
