When Narron was here I longed for a consistent lineup. Now we have consistency in the lineup but its now consistently bad. I've realized that the only thing worse than not knowing how bad each night's lineup might be is knowing how bad it will be.

Respective OBP's vs LHP in the batting order:

1) .353
2) .358
3) .333
4) .331
5) .301
6) .333
7) .282
8) .297

It's not all that bad when you look at it from that perspective. I'm still no fan of Young Body hitting cleanup but my "who cares" meter is going off at this point.

Well, it's awful from that perspective, but somewhat understandable. Can't squeeze blood from a turnip.

Need to call out the person that grew the turnip.

Thom Brennaman asks Brantley if there is any 2B in the last 10-15 years who he would rather have than Jeff Kent. (He prefaced it by saying not necessarily today, which I assume is because younger players like Chase Utley and Brandon Phillips are on the rise.) Brantley says no, but if you let him go back to the 70's, he would take Joe Morgan.

I agree with Jeff regarding Morgan, but even in the limited time frame that Thom mentioned, I would take Roberto Alomar from 10 years ago over Kent.

Hard to say no when compared to his peers....today or 50 years ago.

Except his peers are at first base and third base. He has always been a 1B/3B playing at 2B. He doesn't have the range or defensive skills to play 2B, but the teams that he has played for overlook that because he hits like a 1B/3B.

For 8 years during Dale's prime, he paralleled the prime of Reggie Jackson's career. Injuries prevented him from tacking on meaningless numbers late in a career that forced him into retirement, but he dominated the National League for a whole decade (before those 8 years he led the league in Power/Speed numbers in 1983). That, to me is the ultimate definition of a Hall-of-Famer, someone who dominated a league for a decade.

Tonight's Star Of The Game would be Bronson Arroyo.

Tonight's Star Of The Game would be Bronson Arroyo.

It doesn't bother me either way, but I know Seg and Springer would like to have it back so they have some audio cuts to use. Seg gets some stuff while he's down there, but the "Star of the Game" show really helped them out.

I think it was becoming more of a hassle, so they did away with it.

I wish they still had "The Star Of The Game Show" on the radio broadcasts--especially when Joe Nuxhall is working, so he can give his trademark signoff: "This is the Old Lefthander, rounding third and heading for home. Good night, everyone."

Tonight's Star Of The Game would be Bronson Arroyo.

I agree 100%. I always got the feeling that the players loved and got a kick out of talking to Nux. I think it was a great segment too. Though I can understand if Nux doesn't want to do it.

Back from the game...

A few notes:

-Section 133 Row F is good seats. I recommend.
-Was Conine looking for Phillips when Hopper threw in that ball from OF? They had him if Brandon throws it.
-There is about 3 vendors for every one person..jeez.
-Only Brandon Phillips came out prior to the game and sign. Sort of crappy.
-Saw Javy Valentin at Kings Island... 5'10" my butt. Dude's every bit of 5'8" 220. I didnt bother him. He, his wife Ingrid and his kids were there in the shallow pool. He doesn't strike you as a ball player. He needs to get in better shape but im not going to judge the guy... He is in the majors and I spend my days typing on a keyboard.
-Arroyo looked good. Confident and in a groove. His stuff was wicked. The humidity must have been working for him.
-Went to the reds HOF. Very nice. Wish we had more time to peruse rather than rush for the game.
-People who move seats during the game drive me nuts. Blocked my son's view twice.
-Ushers are still unfriendly. Grumpy old men even when you are nice to them (bad experiences dating back to the early 90's).

That's all for now..sorry it wasnt more about the game but when you go as infrequently as i do, you tend to take in more of the smaller details.

Strangely, I am getting the entire game replayed on mlb.com when it has neve been available before without paying. I was just checking the highlights and wallah! there it was.

I think I'll watch it.

If I remember correctly, they had trouble getting players to participate, especially from opposing teams, so they dropped the show (Matt, correct me if I'm wrong).

I got back from the game a few hours ago. I was in section 132, row A. The seats were awesome, and I couldn't believe how up close everything seemed. I can verify what smith288 said about Brandon Phillips. Before, during, and after the game, there were constantly people stealing seats in my row and trampling all over me to get to them. Also, there was a group of three young men behind me who talked about their personal lives the entire game; it was very annoying. They barely looked at the game at all and seemed like they couldn't've cared less what happened. Way to enjoy those $50 tickets, guys.

I mentioned to security about all the people in my area who were walking all over my friend and me, but security only made two half-assed efforts to do anything (which resulted in nothing).

Arroyo looked awesome, but it seemed like he was throwing too many pitches at times. Mackanin took him out at the right time. Mackanin took out Stanton at the right time, too. What got into Jared Burton? I'm falling in love with the guy.

I was really nervous when Griffey only got a single on the ball he lined into the corner. I thought for sure that he pulled/tore something. It's so sad that that's one of the first things I thought. Speaking of Griffey, he seemed miserable.

In the middle of the game, one of the workers on the field (I think his job is to report potential problems to security) got a ball from the dugout (maybe Griffey gave it to him) and walked it to a very young girl in section 133.

Every time Jeff Conine got out (which happened a lot tonight), someone yelled "JOEY VOTTO!"

Mariano Duncan, the Dodgers first base coach, was flicking sunflower seeds at the first base umpire and was incredibly accurate from long distances. I was very impressed. I asked Mariano Duncan if he ever talks to Herm Winningham, but I got no response.

Billy Hatcher still blows amazingly large bubbles. He could jump out of an airplane, and as long as he has a pack of bubblegum, I think he'd land just fine.

I had a great time at the game and ate way too many hot dogs. When I say "way too many hot dogs," I mean, "seven hot dogs--but I'll try to eat more tomorrow."

And it was always fun to see how many answers Nuxie could elicit without ever once asking a question!

I heard that too several years ago but they kept doing the show most of the time. :dunno:

I was driving to work last night when I heard the Reds turn that DP. According to Joe it went Rodriguez to Phillips to Conine.

That's a big part of it.

We cut it really close a few times last year, because you only have a certain amount of time to find someone, record it, and get back to the booth.

To much hassle.
