Since he broke in to 2001, Adam Dunn is hitting .302 wirh 17 home runs and 37 RBI at Wrigley. His 54 hits and 37 RBI ranked second to only Albert Pujols (59, 40) in that span.

In 30 ABs, here's what Hammy's done in the leadoff spot:

.333/.474/.667

Think he'll try to beat out a bunt to the right side?

RedsManRick

I really don't understand the whole Hamilton leadoff thing unless it's to get him more at bats, but I won't really complain about that -- certainly better than Hopper.

The Cubs have 1 lefty in their bullpen, Scott Eyre. Eyre is not really a lefty specialist and has been horrible this year. Why the heck not stack the lefties?

Hatteberg
Hamilton
Griffey
Dunn
Phillips
Keppinger
EE
Valentin

Breaking up the lefties only makes sense when there are dominant lefty pitchers to avoid.

I agree with this and would even go so far to say that you shouldn't break up your best two hitters regardless of which side they bat from. Junior and Dunn may not be Ruth and Gehrig, but if a team wants to bring in a pitcher to pitch to both of them in a high-leverage situation (rather than IBB or pitch around), I say let them pitch to 'em.

Of course, Zambrano will probably be "on" tonight and it won't make any difference.

There isn't room for everybody, unfortunately. Gonzo isn't going anywhere (ss), Phillips isn't going anywhere, Keppinger deserves his shot, Cantu wasn't traded for no reason... Edwin's bat needs to come back around or he's going to be the odd man out, I think...

This team has more infielders than they know what to do with.

With Gonzo gone (for unfortunate reasons again) this is the perfect chance to see Encarnacion and Keppinger together...for possibly an extended period.

Harang cannot be charged with the loss. However, he is currently the winning pitcher-of-record. In other words, Harang can only get the win or a no-decision. He can't get the loss, should the Cubs come back.

Never mind--you changed your message! :)

Hopper to relieve Junior?

Double-switch:

Weathers pitching, batting 3rd.
Hopper to RF, batting 9th.

Burton's #9 spot is due up fifth in the top of the ninth, while Griffey's #3 spot is due up eighth. The only spot in the order that is further away from coming to bat is Phillips' #4 spot, but the Reds aren't carrying any backup infielders. So Griffey got switched out on the double-switch.
