Amazing.

As long as Keppinger is playing....I don't really care where they hit him. May as well try different things.

Agreed, I'm just amazed that the #3 hitter spent most of the season in the minors. Says a lot about this lineup.

Keppinger was in the minors, but he led the International League in hitting by something like 30 points when he was called up. That boy can hit.

Matt700wlw
08-19-2007, 01:11 PM
yes he can.

I have nothing but good vibes from Jeff Keppinger.

Juan Castro should never be seen again in a Reds uniform. (I said "should")

No it says a lot about the guy making the lineup.

RedLegSuperStar

Keppinger has been the consistent bat in the lineup..

Dunn needs to bat up in the lineup.. i'd probably of batted him 4th with Phillips behind him just so he can see some better pitches. They are least likely to walk Dunn to get to Phillips then they are walk Dunn to get to Conine.

GameDay shows strike three to Hamilton was clearly outside.

OnBaseMachine
08-19-2007, 02:12 PM
Hamilton has been absolutely screwed by umpires this season. That 3-2 pitch was six inches outside and was still called strike three. That call cost the Reds a run as Keppinger doubles down the line.

Questec please.

Adam Dunn is good. Lock him up. If he remains a Red, Dunn could move into thid place on the Reds all-time homerun list by late next season. And then second place sometime in 2009. A four or five year contract extension would make him a near lock to become the greatest homerun hitter in Reds history.

From Rotoworld today:

"After Chris Capuano went 0-10 with a 6.67 ERA in his last 15 starts, all of which the Brewers lost, manager Ned Yost said he would give him one more shot in the starting rotation.

One of the primary reasons for that decision was that Capuano is 1-0 with a 0.66 earned run average in two starts against the Reds this season. Asked what his attitude was entering the critical outing, Capuano said, "I'm getting ready for a fight. I'm just going to go as hard as I can, as long as I can.""

I tell you what, Burton looks like a completely different pitcher now compared to when the Reds first picked him up. He's had the stuff, but he lacked the command early in the season. Now that he's picked up some nice command, his stuff really becomes nasty, and we're seeing the makings of a potential relief ace right here.

Stuff + Command = Beautiful results ... now hopefully Homer Bailey figures that out.

Jared Burton is a stud. I have been a huge fan of his since the first time I saw him pitch in spring training against the Yankees. IIRC, he struckout Jeter and Giambi that game. His stuff is filthy. Burton, along Bray are two guys I like at the major league level. Brad Salmon pitched well up here before the Reds foolishly sent him down. Coutlangus has a nice arm. I think McBeth has the stuff to be a solid 8th inning guy. Then you throw in Carlos Guevara (potential long-man) and Tyler Pelland and Josh Roenicke and the Reds have the potential makings of a good bullpen down the road. Roenicke is the future closer of this team IMO.

With Cantu's complete inability to find first base due to a propensity to swing at crap out the strike zone and his refusal to take a walk, he can stay down in Louisville for eternity for all I care. I have zero patience with guys who can't get on base and avoid outs, and I'd have zero patience for a guy like Cantu.

There's a whole lot to like about this 6-game road trip. Winning 4 is nice and as long as Macklanin stays away from gasoline vendors Stanton, Majewski, and Guardado (among others) this team has a good chance of winning. The bullpen today pitched 2.1 innings of one-hit ball. Mighty fine.

My only concern today and in his last start is Harang is throwing a lot of gopher balls lately--7 in the last two games. He had 16 HRs given up two starts ago and now the number is 23? And they were real blasts, too. Hope he can correct that. But today's game was a fun game.

Adam Dunn leads the team in HR's and RBI. He is 2nd to only Brandon Phillips in Runs Scored. and has a .370 OBP.

Can't bat him any higher than 5th in the lineup.

cumberlandreds

Adam Dunn is good. Lock him up. If he remains a Red, Dunn could move into thid place on the Reds all-time homerun list by late next season. And then second place sometime in 2009. A four or five year contract extension would make him a near lock to become the greatest homerun hitter in Reds history.

I agree with you. An outfield of Dunn,Hamilton and Bruce will look mighty nice for the next 8 to 10 season. But I really doubt the Reds will pony up the money to sign Dunn long term.
