Why is Phillips hitting 4th?

Why is Hamilton hitting 1st?

Why is Belise in the starting rotation?

Why is Dunn hitting 5th?

Why is the sun always shining?

Why is the sky always blue?

Why are the Cards the class of the major leagues?

Why can't we get pitchers like Kip Wells to pitch like Cy Young like Dave Duncan can do?

That should save eveyone alot of time.

Some nice baserunning by Hamilton.

Firstly he did a nice job in taking 3rd base on the single up the gut and recognizing that he would beat the throw with ease. Secondly, on Phillips' line drive single to right, he waited right at the bag until it fell in for sure.

Not a big deal, but it's nice to see Hamilton continue to learn the finer aspects of the game.

I really don't think he's that far away. His dramatic improvement in finding the strike zone this year has been great. Now he just learn to pitch effectively inside the zone.

Last couple of years...he had major flaws.

This offense is GOOD.

This lineup can hurt you.... Sweet!!

They're damn good, and they're fun to watch despite their place in the standings. When Keppinger is serving as the high contact table setter, and Hamilton as the 380+OBP leadoff hitter with pop, the rest of the lineup benefits greatly from their presence. Enormous upgrade from the days of Freel and Phillips at #1 and #2. Instead the top of the order gets on, and the EBH/Slg% bats (Griffey, BP, Dunn) are driving them in. Enormous upgrade with Keppinger over AGon, and the added luxury of dropping EdE down in the order, rather than relying upon him as the 5th spot in the order.

Hope that Belisle can become an above average #4 starter to complement Harang and Arroyo, and then go out and get some legit pitching help for the 'pen and a couple of rotation upgrades in the offseason. We're not far from being a pretty good young team, but it's going to take the right moves from our GM.

Behind David Eckstein and Adam Wainwright (he probably played SS in high school), Hanley Ramirez is the best SS in the NL by far and one of the top three in baseball.

Just joking of course about Eckstein.

That pitch sequence to Cabrera was a great example of what he needs to do. Get ahead...and then pitch close enough to the zone to try to make them hit your pitch. Miggy swung at least 2, maybe 3 balls....right on the edge of the zone after he was behind.

I'm thinking the homer and the two following base hits are indication Matt does not have it in him to go all the way.

Dunn! Wow, was that a shot! 90 RBI by my count.

By my count, as well. ;) I wonder how many of these foundering NL Wild Card contenders, who were so disinterested at the deadline, could have used Dunn's prolific production and 1070+ OPS in August? Let's hope that the inability to move Dunn was one of those 'best trades are those never made' moments, and that Krivsky has had his eyes somewhat opened to what Dunn means to this offense. I'd love few things more than to see Dunn extended at a reasonable price to anchor a young offense, and the other extra parts moved to solidify the dearth in the pitching ranks.

We all saw how well he pitched. I don't care about the stats that much. This has been the case for many Reds starters this year. The rotation needs help, but a better, deeper bullpen would help all their stats and avoid the "left in too long" beatings IMO.

There is no way this team can win the division. We can only be thankful that our offense is currently capable of hitting 11 runs in a game to save some face.

I can barely even be thankful for the starters. When a bullpen is this bad, one inning can negate seven unbelievably fast.

Why is it such a boneheaded move? He had a 10 run lead to start the inning. I know you're trying to build the guy's confidence but leaving him out there in that situation (a) let's him try and work out of a difficult spot and (b) saves a spent pen for another night. Saarloos is. I hated the acquisition from the moment it happened.

There is an entire cadre of utter detritus vying for 'worst arm' among Krivsky's veteran bullpen acquisitions. This should be one of the key concerns with Krivsky: He's been very fortunate that some low risk gambles, fliers and afterthoughts have emerged to help bolster the offense. However, the major targets he's acquired in his chosen areas of focus (the bullpen in particular), have been complete busts almost across the board.

I'm pleased with where this team currently is in terms of young position player talent, but I'm not convinced it was by GM design at all, nor that he knows how to now go about filling the other voids. Stanton and Saarloos, among many others and the innumerable veteran tripe we witnessed in the bullpen last year), are the types of driftwood that need to be permanently removed from this roster ASAP. Instead we keep recycling them like we're trying to corner the market.

Now Weathers is pitching in a non save situation.

A closer? In a non-save situation? Perish the thought - Bob Wickman's head would explode.

sounds painful to me.

Every Reds win is painful, flyer. I can think of one game this year that hasn't been painful at some point, the 16-run Junior Returns to Seattle game.

I think your vote stands the best chance, actually.

Your vote is probably Stanton.

I would guess it's Saarloos.

Yeah, to only win the game by 4 runs.

Oh the humanity.

Just got home from the game! It was a great ceremony--seeing all the players from the Big Red Machine made me feel like a little kid again! Sparky, Tony, Little Joe, George, Ken Sr., Johnny, and of course the guest of honor--Dave Concepcion! I thought the video congratulations from Giants SS Omar Vizquel was a nice touch, as well!

Matt Belisle pitched very well. Stanton and Saarloos--not so much. But what should we expect from the eighth inning?!

Jeff Keppinger continues to hit, and hit, and hit....

If Dunn remains a Red throughout all of next season as he should (and beyond that), then he could move as high as third place on the Reds all-time homerun list late next season. And then into second place all by himself sometime during the 2009 season.

Nothing quite like the bullpen giving up a six spot in the eighth.

Rather do that with a 10 run lead than a 5 run lead. Considering the bullpen's recent success, I am glad they chose tonight to let a few cross. Let's hope that was all they needed to get the itch out of the system.

Anyone else have a trusty broom at their side?
