I've recently come to the conclusion that I hate all five other NL Central teams. It's to the point now that it doesn't matter much to me who wins the NL Central if the Reds aren't winning it; I just want that team to get their tails kicked immediately in the LDS.

too bad ... Votto might have actually given Dunn a little bit of protection.

It is interesting that since the ASB Dunn's OBP is over .430 and slugging is over .550 and yet his rate for the counting stats have not increased.

I'd like to see what those numbers would be with a full year of Jr. hitting right in front of him. I seem to remember that both Jr. and Dunn were pretty hot during the stretch they hit 3 and 4 this year. I could be wrong though.

Dunn's line this year batting 4th is .321/.400/.765/1.165 over 95 plate appearances, and that includes 11 home runs. Much of his time batting cleanup this season was in June, and Griffey hit .290/.367/.645/1.012 for the month of June.

I'm not sure what the exact batting lines for both of them are when they hit 3/4 back-to-back, but I imagine both are incredibly high. Why the Reds feel the necessity to put a .333 on-base percentage between Griffey and Dunn, I have no idea ... but this is the Reds we're talking about here.

On the positive, Votto has shown a good eye for drawing a walk against lefties, even though he struggles getting hits or hitting with power against them. So, there's hope.

Anyone here think that Arod is on steroids? He looks unusually large.

Junior's the same size he was 10 years ago. He ages normally.

Something's amiss in the Arod department.

A-Rod hasn't grown substantially. he wasn't a stickly kid like Junior was when he came up. He's always been well-built with a curiously womanly behind.

More good fielding from the guy who can't play defense.

Somebody's full of crap :)

He's fine at first. He's good enough. They needed to find out if he could play LF, so they kept him at AAA. Plus, there was still the issue of Hatteberg.

Votto was not left in AAA too long. A September call-up was perfect.

No. Ryan Zimmerman amongst others is well ahead of EE. Still, he does seem to be making strides towards being a very fine defender.

I must admit that I somehow forgot about Ryan Zimmerman. However, from watching nearly the entire league this year, I have a hard time finding a 3B that covers as much ground or makes as many athletic plays as EdE does. Yeah he may make an errant throw here and there (very few since his recall) but he more than makes up for it with his incredible range.

Unlike some people like to lead you to believe, fielding in baseball takes time to learn and players get better over the years, not worse.

Hamilton has room for improvement, and will get better. We've all personally watched Dunn get better. We've been watching Edwin get better and we've watched Phillips get better.

Don't believe those posters who try to tell you with their mumbo-jumbo defensive stats that players peak in defense in their early 20's. Trust your own eyes. You're seeing it for yourself every day.

BTW, Wade Boggs was a horrible fielder his first few years in the Majors. During his 13th and 14th years in the Majors, he won 2 Gold Gloves.

In the infield, EE's steadly rising .764 is last (not counting catcher).

Fun to watch the boys beat up on someone else for a change. Bronson was deceptive tonight. He wasn't totally overpowering, but he kept them from getting hits and getting on base much. All of a sudden he was out of the game only having given up 2 runs and a handfull of hits.

Couple of nice plays, Votto snaring a line drive and EE had two really, really good catches.

Best of all, my father snagged a foul ball off of Johnny Estrada. Always like the souvineers. Actually, it was impressive. The ball hit right in front of a lady two seats down and it shot off to the left. I flailed at it like a drunken, wounded goose. My 65 year old father deftly grabbed it and handed it to me. Soft hands indeed.

Because he can't hit lefties in AAA, yet alone the bigs, and he plays poor defense. Both reasons for giving him something to work on at AAA.

The sad thing is this organizations GM and top scouts appear to believe what you have posted here. :(

They are too often afraid to give up on old veterans like Conine/Hatteberg in favor of a youngster like Votto.

This club wasn't going anywhere this year. This was a perfect time to turn EE, Hamilton and Votto loose for an entire season.

Let'em play against RHP and LHP. Let'em make mistakes, Let'em learn.

Is it just me, or is Edwin quietly putting together a respectable season, despite his injury and despite being Jerry's whipping post.

Edwin has always been a favorite of mine.

I think most fans forget just how young EE really is. Edwin is just eight months older than Joey Votto.

You're assuming of course that the media or the internet or cable guessers have been accurately stating what our FO actually thought of him. For that matter, did the rub of "no defense" come from scouts outside the organization hoping to diminish the value of Votto. Far too often, we get from the newspaper bloggers that "some in the organization" and we have no idea with that is. Most anything coming out of John Fay's blog, or Hal McCoy's columns and occasionally from CTR's blog (he's on verge of exploding in some of his game blogs, not a good thing, IMO, for resume building) are generally pretty much full of it.

I don't care how old you are. Going to a ball game with your father, having him snare a foul ball and hand it to you is one of the best feelings in the world.

Celibrate and enjoy the empty nest Redsmetz. But don't forget that you'll always be Dad. :)
