Pete missed his chance to pull a LaRussa. He could have batted Arroyo 8th and Ellison 9th. Brandon has more power. :p:

Where's Dunn? Start him tonight and then give him tomorrow off against the lefty.

I'm guessing that Dunn has a minor injury they are not disclosing.

He's got a sore knee. It's been in the papers.

For the record. Correia dominates LH'ers.

Both pitchers bat with 2 outs and the bases loaded in the 2nd inning. Both make outs to end the inning.

0-0 after 2 innings.

Argh - great play by the Giants RFer, Schierholtz. With most right fielders, that is at least a two bagger...tough play going into the wall.

3-0 pitch to Votto was six inches outside but still called strike one. And of cource he end up grounding out. QUESTEC.

REDS with 5 LOB in the 2nd & 3rd innings. That was a nice run-saving catch out in RF.

Of course he was called safe. He's playing against the Reds. It's not an official game until the Reds get screwed.

I am not one to question Bronson, but he throws curves on a 2-1 count and a 3-2 count to a pitcher who is 1-for-13 this year. Both are balls. Walk.

RedFanAlways1966
09-22-2007, 10:21 PM
Roberts flys easily to Ellison to end another jam for Arroyo.

0-0 after 4 innings.

Easy inning for both pitchers. Keppinger gets a 2-out walk and is the only base runner for either team in the 5th inning.

0-0 after 5 innings.

mbgrayson

Not your typical shutout after 5:

Left on base:
Reds 6
Giants 7

Correia 76
Arroyo 74

Since becoming a REDS pitcher Arroyo has walked 4 batters in a start 5 times (2 times in 2006 and 3 times in 2007). The REDS have a 0-5 record in those games.

He had never walked more than that in a start for the REDS until tonight.

RedFanAlways1966

You know a game is kind of boring when the biggest highlight through 6+ innings is some dummy falling out of his kayak going after a prized Javy foul ball.

Pretty funny though... :)

First pitch on Kepp and EE were called strikes. Clearly they were inside, GameDay affirms this. Ump must have a hot date.

Arroyo will get another 'no decision' tonight.

I know several of you don't like the 'quality start' stat, but compared to 'wins', I think it is superior. Arroyo gets a "QS" for tonight, but no win.

Speaking of quality starts... the REDS have won 5 of the last 6 games with a QS. The loss was the last time before tonight they had a QS (Wed. @ Cubs, Shearn... Majewski gets the loss in the inning when Junior got hurt).

Scary thing (as usual) is the bullpen has a 6.14 ERA in September.

At this point I wouldn't give you anything for either of those supposedly bullpen anchors. Bray's ERA is 7.30 and Majewski 7.71. What do these guys have to do to prove to Mackanin and Krivsky it's rime to go to plan B?

Not to belabor the point, but in the last ten games they've pitched in, they have been worse than horrible.

Bray - 7.2 in allowing 7 hits and 9 earned runs for a 11.25 ERA

Majewski - 6.1 innings allowing 12 hits and 6 earned runs for a 9.00 ERA

Together, these guys that Krivsky expects to anchor the bullpen have allowed 19 hits in 14 innings and 15 earned runs.

Why do you bring them in in the situation they were brought in tonight? Short answer? There was no one else and if Krivsky thinks these are anchors, I'm really worried. He has a lot of work to do on the bullpen whether he wants to admit it or not.

People talk about Bill Bray as if he were some kind of lock. Where that comes from I still have no idea.

FCB...

It comes from the trade. Those who support this administration with great passion have to justify why we gave up two starters (as poor as they are or as great as they were--your opinion) for two relief pitchers--one who was very hittable and another who was a shot in the dark. So, you have to believe that Bray is all that.

From the TV crew to the radio crew and the GM himself, all we've heard is that Bray was the key to the trade. My pointing out that his statistics are not that great get the usual "small sample size" comment as if hismajor league career of 63 games doesn't tell the story of a kid. A kid who might be good someday or maybe never:

G - 63
IP - 62.2
H - 71
R - 35
BB - 22
SO -51
ERA-4.45

His WHIP is 1.48 while Mike Stanton's is 1.35, Danny Graves' is 1.40. I don't see anything but potential and not much of that. I sure the stats guys will roll out all the fancy stuff that shows he is a stud, btu I don't see it.

I hope the kid does well and becomes what everyone thinks he his, but for now, he's a liability just like most of our bullpen.
