It looks like the only threat in the bottom third of the order is the pitcher, but that's September-October ball every year it seems with the Reds.

Can Cantu play the outfield? I would rather have his bat in there, especially against the Cubbies.

I asked that question the other night and pedro and I finally agreed on something--that he couldn't be any worse than anyone else out there and secondly, he might be a threat to get a timely hit.

They could just put Votto in LF and Cantu at 1B like last night. Hopper, Ellison, and Coats may just be the most punchless outfield I've seen in a long while.

I've been back and forth on Dunn this season....keep him, trade him, keep him, trade him.

This is evidence what a lineup can look like without him or Griffey

I've never budged on Dunn. I've always felt they should keep him and try to sign him long-term. I'm only advocating Votto in LF right now because of how pitiful the alternatives are.

Dunn's not just the engine of the offense--he's the chassis, the frame, the windows, the seats, the headlights, the radiator; this squad is the Carl's Jr. balls you put on the antenna.

Votto has had a bunch of atbats lately where he got ahead 3-0, 3-1, and the atbat resulted in an out. He's been awesome through his first 75 plate appearances but he'll be even better once he's able to finish at atbat and draw the walk. But you gotta love the fact that he works the count deep and makes the pitcher work.

But...but...the Cubs are honestly the best team of a very sorry bunch. They deserve the title. As much as I hate to say it, I find myself in agreement with you. I hae to admire the Cubs who went out and spent the money necessary to win a division. A crappy division, but they'll get the flag. Our favorite team tends to look at things differently, bringing in players that are marginal at best while alwys trying to rid themselves of payroll and the same result always happens.

The Cubs actually hired a championship manager and got some real starters. Yes, they have more money than we do, but we put together a staff of a number one we already had an number three we already had and whatever was left. Yes, pitching is expensive, but they had the guts to put the money out and it worked. Our bullpen was world-class horrible and didn't get much better, but, hey, we didn't spend a lot of money and we went with a guy who we extended even though he'd never won anything. and we're aobut to do the same thing for another year.

Like you, if they win one game in the playoffs I'll be upset, but they did the things they needed to do to win. We only played like we were.
