I have never been a really big video fan. When MTV started, I was still living at home and had no cable. No cable in college either so about the only exposure to videos I had was the old Friday Night Videos that they used to have on NBC.

But there are some videos that I've really enjoyed. New Frontier by Donald ***en and Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel are two that really stand out for me.

Good thread.

Wow, all-time...the ones which stick out in my mind first are:

Genesis - Land of Confusion
Motley Crue - Girls, Girls, Girls
Guns 'N Roses - November Rain
Guns 'N Roses - You Could Be Mine
Blind Melon - No Rain

And just about anything by Weird Al...specifically Fat.

I'm probably overlooking a ton of them from the late 80's and early 90's. I never understood how so many contestants on Remote Control didn't know the videos in the final round. I think every single video from about '88 to '93 was fully engrained in my brain.

Weird Al videos are always great....the latest (animated!) one paroding R Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" is hilarious....and yes, I will take the hits...but I remember waiting at a friends for MTV's "World Premiere" of "Thriller"...and yes, I liked it...

I have an odd list, in no particular order

Madonna - La Isla Bonita
Living Color - Cult of Personality
Natalie Merchant - Ophelia
Linkin Park - In the End
POD - Youth of a Nation
Springsteen - Born to Run (Live concert footage version)
The Cure - Any video from Disintegration.... The greatest album ever.
U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday.

oh yeah, and Chris Issak - Wicked Game.

And every video that has anything to do with Sarah McLachlan.

Like someone said earlier, I just don't get into music videos. I listen to the music FOR the music. Having said that, I enjoyed the Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc.", as well as the cheesy YouTube vid OK Go put up for "Here It Goes Again", with the treadmills.

Going old school, The Beatles had a couple of good videos, whether they be movie snippets or promotions to the Ed Sullivan Show: Strawberry Fields Forever and Can't Buy Me Love from A Hard Day's Night come to mind.

I'd have to say every Duran Duran video ever made. :)

What can I say....being a teenage girl in the early/mid 80's, I'd watch MTV for hours and hours just to get that 5 minute glimpse of John Taylor. Plus, you have to admit, Duran Duran had the most elaborate, cinematic videos out there during MTV's early days. Of course, when I was 14, I never dreamed I'd still be watching and listening to new Duran Duran material at the age of 39!

What are music videos? Are they still on tv?

I can't remember the last one I've seen. And that's sad because I used to watch them all the time growing up. I'd get home from school, plop down on the couch with some food and watch MTV's top 10 videos. I loved Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me". That song was #1 forever it seemed.

I also liked:

Michael Jackson - Thriller
G'n'R - All their videos
Metallica - One (turned me onto the dark side ;))

I have it on my harddrive, that's how awesome it is.. the only other one I have is Leave me Alone by Michael Jackson... Michael in a rocket ship with a chimp doesn't seem that strange after watching that Tom Cruise video.

That worked out well, she's also known for hooking up a few Nashville and Howie Epstein of the Heartbreakers with junk.

She was portrayed in the movie Walk the Line as a child, I think she said ... Hi Johnny.
