Not much to regret at 700K. People like to bash Casey around here cause of the double plays he had but, for that price he wouldn't be a bad bat comming off the bench.

Why would they regret it? Even if Casey is a backup, he's a good guy to have in the clubhouse. I think its a good move.

Glad to hear Casey signed with a team that are already contenders. I think he'll be a nice bat off the bench for the Sox. He is a good contact hitter and doesn't strikeout much. It's clear he's not starter material anymore, but I think with his skills he could extend his career for a few more years in this type of role.

I hate the idea of rooting for the Red Sox, but I'd love to see Sean get a ring.

The Yankees have Miguel Cairo on their bench and the Red Sox have Julio Lugo.

Big Boy Baseball is more than just throwing money at free agents like Ensberg whose stats have declined over the last two seasons like so many others in MLB.

I think this is a good move for the Red Sox. They get a veteran who will hit in the clutch off the bench and a guy who can spell for Lowell (they'll move Youkilis to 3rd) once or twice a week. Good signing at 700K and I'm pretty sure the contract isn't guaranteed, so he'll have to make the team out of Spring training.

That was a Career Year for Scott as a full-time player for most of the year.

That's pretty cheap for a good bench player. Next year if Hatte is gone I'd sign Casey to a one year deal for about the same amount. Hopefully have him retire as a Red.

Did you expect the Pirates to give us a good pitcher and salary relief? Even the Bucs are not that dense.

Casey was a bargain for 700,000. He has a career BA of .301 and has had a OBP of .350 or higher in 8 of 10 years. A good move by the Red Sox.

Sean Casey is a class act. Just having him around the clubhouse is a good addition for any team. Not a power hitter, but will hit around .300. Don't know how anyone could not like the mayor.

My bad. My initial reaction was that you were saying that we kept Casey on the bench for $700K. As much as I liked Casey trading him was a good move. He was WAY too expensive to keep.

I loved Casey when he was here, I don't know bout every one here but I felt so bad what happend here when he left. To me it was a slap in the face i could only imagine how he felt. I hope that he puts up big numbers for the Sox. I bet he puts his fair share of dents in that green wall.

Casey would have to do more than hit well above .300 to replace Youk, he might have to go Tonya Harding on him. Youk gets on base at an extremely high clip, he sees more pitches than anyone in baseball, and he didn't make an error until the postseason. Casey's days are behind him but I'm sure he'll get a start and a standing O when the Saux come to Cincy this summer.

Sure, between two teams of the same skill, the team that is happier probably will win more games. However, if one team focusses on talent, and another "clubhouse presence", the team with more talent is going to win more games. However, in this case Casey is only a bench player so it really doesn't make a difference....
