As well as Edison Volquez. IMO if today was opening day your starting 5 is Harang, Arroyo, Belisle, Fogg, and Cueto (with the back 3 could be in a different order).

Volquez will end up in the bullpen not AAA if he doesn't make the rotation, IMO.

Nothing too exciting from pregrame with Dusty. Only tomorrow should be the day for Hairston and Patterson -- they'll be headed to Lakeland with one split squad.

Oh yeah. Homer and Volquez against the Yanks' A lineup, while we also get to see Jay Bruce and Joey Votto (amongst others) aganst a great young pitcher in Joba Chamberlain. Doesn't get much better than that on March 10th.

absolutely spot on. With question marks in spots 3-5 in the rotation (if not 2-5), having a plus glove at SS to pair with Phillips would be worth it.

I actually don't have a problem with Bruce batting lead off if he's not expected to act like Ricky Hendersen.

Bruce can pretend he's not supposed to be a big power hitting rbi guy and just go up there and hit.

I have been encouraged by Homer's secondary pitches tonight but the consistent command needed to be a great pitcher is still not there. I think he could use a few more months in Louisville to work on that. His changeup and curve have looked good tonight though.

Every single curve he threw other then maybe 1 or 2 were elevated in the zone. Just because he got away with it doesn't mean they were well located.

I thought he located his change well.

Yeah I noticed that too. He was really hitting his spots out of the full windup, but once he had to deal with runners on base, his control suffered mightily.

Homer is overthrowing the curve. You don't want to use it that much. Use your 2 seamer and change more often.

Homer should have had a easy 2nd inning but got caught in the stretch and of course, wore down.

Homer looked better against the Red Sox structurally. Disappointing night for him for sure. He really blew a golden chance considering his stuff was vibrant tonight.

To be fair, if you're so gassed that you can't throw the fastball for a strike you have to wonder if there's any chance of the curve or a change for a strike.

Homer had some encouraging moments tonight but overall he's still having command issues that are going to prevent him from being a success until he overcomes them.

I was impressed with the secondary stuff his command still very inconsistent. Give him about three months in Louisville and if his commands has improved to where it needs to be, call him up.

I'm not defending Homer's outing, but I've seen this Yankee lineup do the same thing to pitchers more seasoned than Homer. I still think he should start in AAA.

I feel unless Bailey comes out and dominates from here on out, he is heading to AAA. His command isn't an issue with his curveball and at least tonight with his change up, but his fastball command is still needing some work.

This is one reason I'm glad the Jeremy/ Josh contingent was brought in to alleviate the pressure to rush any of the 3 before they are ready.

Tonight was definitely unusual. Alot of silly mistakes when he seemingly was in control.

Shutting out the Yanks offense for 3-4 innings would have been a big push. He had a good shot with a easy 2nd.

I was dealing with the kids but I only remember one really good change up from him tonight and his curve looked like a coin flip pitch.

What I gather from that is that 1) Patterson isn't here to compete for the starting position. and 2) Ryan Freel is probably as good as gone.

And this is one reason why I didn't end up loving the Cordero signing. Punting away the season that will probably (based on age) be Cordero's best on a record setting contract.

Just didn't make sense if you were going to bail on this year.

Oh well. Hopefully they stay in it long enough to make some moves at the deadline.
