Gil has caught Baker's eye. I have to think that both Gil and Andy Green are Reds bacause of Assistant GM Bob Miller (he of the Juan Duran signing). They were both in AZ while Miller was.

Joey
Jerry
Javy
Josh

Don't they know that they have to split up the J's??????????????????:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang ::bang::bang: Oh that Baker. If this was opening day, I would have to quit being a fan. At least he knew enough to keep Juan, Jeff, Jay, Jolbert and Jerry away.

Andy Green is a Reds fan and really wants to be a Red. Its somewhat rare to hear guys openly admit that sort of thing.

According to Fay, Keppinger hurt his quad sliding into second the other day. Dusty's going to give him a couple days off.

According to Fay, Keppinger hurt his quad sliding into second the other day. Dusty's going to give him a couple days off.

Is that so? In Fay's Reds Report in today's paper it clearly says:
Jeff Keppinger said he is not hurt; he's just been given the last two days off. He'll play today.

Interesting how these stories change.

And when are we going to hear the real problem with Ross' back? Spasms alone don't cause this sort of layoff. There must be something structurally causing those spasms.

This is from Fay's latest blog entry. Baker is the one who said Kepp hurt his quad.

Jeff Keppinger, Dusty Baker said, hurt his quad sliding into second the other day. He's getting a couple of days off. He's taking batting practice, etc. just not playing.

Same guy I'd target. If the Reds are willing to cough up some starting pitching (Belisle or Bailey, probably), I'd think there's a trade of some shape to be made.

Bailey for Laird? No thanks.

How good defensively is Laird?solid, good not great but better than anything the Reds have. He does have a little upside as a hitter ... although he seems to be the typical catcher(offensive performance all over the place).

He's supposed to be good defensively. I imagine if the deal were to involve Bailey there would be more players involved. But do not underestimate the shortage of quality catching around the league, nor the level of desperation the Reds may be feeling.

If Homer Bailey is going to the Rangers for a catcher, I want that catcher to be Taylor Teagrden plus another prospect.

I'd give 'em Belisle for Laird though.

An oddly big at-bat for Votto there, given the murmuring that has broken out about him, even on this board. Two out three run homerun off of a lefty? Nice to see.

Different style, same results. Belisle will actually have to have a good season before I buy into his "unlucky" tag.

I don't think he's "unlucky" either. But he was able to K some while keeping his BB numbers fairly low. He's better than Fogg, and honestly, folks wanting to dump Belisle after a bad spring training are just asking for it.

This team does not have the luxury of dealing rotation arms. I don't care how excited all of us are about Cueto and Volquez.

Belisle's an option; Fogg is an emergency flotation device.

Whatever decision is made for Opening Day will be a fluid one. If Fogg bombs like you fear then Belisle will be given a chance. The way I see it our #5 spot looks pretty ugly no matter who we put there and that's pretty much the case throughout the league.

Belisle's an option; Fogg is an emergency flotation device. If it is between Fogg and Belisle, I would lean toward putting Belisle in the pen because he has had some success there and can fill the long role. Fogg has generally been a starter, a bad one, but a starter nonetheless. In other words, until Belisle proves different, he may be of more value in the pen and he and Fogg are a push in the rotation. I also have had Belisle on my own personal trading block and still wouldn't mind putting him and Freel together in a deal.
