Patterson, CF

Keppinger, SS

Griffey, RF

Phillips, 2B

Dunn, LF

Encarnacion, 3B

Hatteberg, 1B

Valentin, C

Harang, RHP

Don't like Hatteberg playing instead of Votto but he did have a good spring so maybe it's the best choice. I guess we'll find out tomorrow though.

I really thought Votto would be the first basemen come opening day.

Its not like Hatte is a bad player, so it isn't the worst thing in the world. And Baker still speaks highly of Votto.

I like it Votto will get plenty of chances to prove himself as it is a long season

That lineup gags me, where is Freel?

Patterson beat out Freel when Dusty signed.

The only way Freel would start is if Patterson didn't and it seems Cory is a favorite of Baker from the Cubbie days.

I'm just happy that Castro isn't starting. That was my worst nightmare before today.

If I was still manager I wouldn't have had a lineup like that.

Maybe not but Narron would've pinch hit Juan Castro for Adam Dunn with the bases loaded in the 9th inning.

He's clutch.

We don't want Dunn drawing a walk in that situation!

If it wins the game then I would love to see that ;)

the lineup doesn't look that bad to me, the only thing i wouldve changed is votto playing instead of hatteberg, but i see the reasoning behind starting hatteberg instead. no complaints here so far.

As much as I dislike Patterson leading off, I can understand it and am willing to give him a shot.

I also like Hatteberg starting. He's a veteran who had a good year last year and a much better spring then Votto whom he was competing against. Votto isn't up on this club to sit on the bench so I'm sure he'll get plenty of time.

Dunn batting 5th is what drives me nuts.

True on all points.
It wouldnt surprise me to see Votto in there wednesday after all the Opening Day festivities are thru.

I don't mind Dunn batting 5th, in fact, I think it kinda makes sense. With Griffey batting 3rd, chances are he'll drive in some runs. Having Phillips next gives him a chance to get on, and Dunn at least has the possibility to get him around, or even hit more 2-run home runs than solo shots.

I don't know. It made sense in my head, but I'm not sure I explained my thinking very well. :D

Or possibly on thursday or friday. Maybe he just doesn't want him coming out and facing Webb/Haren. Let Hatteberg take the good pitchers and ease Votto in for a couple weeks until Votto can step in fully.

Here's what I would do:

Keppinger
Encarnacion
Dunn
Griffey
Phillips
Hatteberg/Votto
Patterson
Catcher
Pitcher

Anyone who complains about that lineup is just nitpicking or was pre-disposed to hating Dusty from the beginning. Solid lineup - hopefully one that can hang 7 or so on Webb.

I disagree, there is definitely a legitimate complaint against Patterson.

Considering who is currently on the 25-man, I completely agree.

I'd like to see Keppinger in that two spot alot this year. His ability to hit to all fields really intreagues me out of that spot. If Patterson can find his swing, and get on base with some regularity, we could have a good lineup.

Patterson was penciled into the CF/Lead-off spot the minute he signed with the team, we all should have seen that one coming.
I really don't see too much to complain about and there are no real surprises.

Battle of the teams using sub 300 OBP guys to lead off.

Seriously though I have a feeling Patterson legs come in handy opening day vs the groundballer Webb. I just don't want him there all season if he's putting up his career averages.
