I didn't get to see him pitch today and I was wondering how he looked. I know he had a perfect game through 5 and a ton of strikeouts. I was just curious about his velocity and mechanics.

He looked really good. Those Pedro comparisons look just about right. He really does know how to pitch and has the stuff to back it up.

Constantly hitting 94-96 with all of his fastballs. Challenged every hitter with fastballs. Unbelievable how well he looked today.

He was nasty. Mark Grace and Sutton had nothing but raves for him. Exciting day to be a Reds' fan.

Go look at the YouTube entries on the ORG thread. They've got the 2nd inning posted, and the D-back announcers were just gushing.

It was special to watch. He was around the plate all day with late movement on everything. After the 5th there was a sense something special was going to happen. Maybe the HR he gave up was a blessing though as it made it easier on Dusty to take him out after 7. I've always been a pitching guy and it's been a while since I've really been this excited about the Reds. I wish the Cueto jersey would've been here in time for the game but hopefully it'll show up before his next start.

Am I dreaming? Wow!

PS: I have no idea why Dusty brought In Mike Lincoln when he did instead of Burton but it worked so kudos to him.

I cannot wait to watch the You Tube link when I get home from work! It sounds like Cueto was just awesome today. :jump:

Yeah, the fact that his stuff was near the plate almost every pitch was the best part. He was putting that ball wherever he wanted it.

Eric Byrnes looked terrible a few times against Cueto. It was awesome.

Chris Young K'd 4 times, and he's not exactly a hitting slouch.

Cueto looks like Jose Rijo to me. This start gets me excited for Volquez. I really hope both these young guys have great years with the Reds.

Cueto was awesome. He has top talent. Here's praying he continues to shine.

I expect some hiccups this year, but he defenitly has the talent to take the #2 spot from Arroyo by year's end.

Yeah...this Cueto fella is a little bit of okay.

AWESOME game today! I was one of the 120 people (hahaha) in attendance and Johnny was mowin' 'em down. I was hanging out with some business guys and they all called into work after about the 3rd. Johnny was the talk of the crowd and even AD was playing a little D.

I was watching on the Az. Fox station and Grace and partner were raving about Cueto the whole time he was in there. Nice to hear the opposition's comments and observations, especially Grace. For those of us are old enough to remember, comparisons to Wayne Simpson come to mind.

I don't know what the big deal is- Marichal pitched 9 innings (a 1 hitter) and struck out 12 in his debut.

Really great start, he has a very promising future, hopefully Volquez can follow it up in his start with equal impressiveness.

I realized he had not had his own thread, so I am making him one today. I was unable to watch the game, but I saw some of the highlights on Reds.com. 7 IP, 1 hit, 1 r, 1 er, on the home run, and 10 strikeouts. He seemed to have no shortage of velocity, as he repeatedly reached 96 on his fastball, the low 90s on his slider, and the high 80s on his changeup. More importantly, has anyone who did see the game tell me is how well his off-speed pitches were moving. I would like it if anyone who did watch the game could speak to this.

Anyway, kudos to Johnny for an outstanding game, and I hope he continues more of it in the future. He clearly is ready for the major leagues, and I hope we can say the same thing about Edinson when he makes his first start.

I listened to the entire game and saw some of the youtube clips. His fastball was electric and spot on. He was popping the knees the entire game. His slider was sitting around 88-90 and had the hitters off balance all game. His changeup was supposedly around 86-88 and had some late drop to it. simply an amazing performance today.

I think that's asking for a lot. Cueto's start today may be one of the most dominating starts we will see in baseball this year.

He was dominant today. I've seen a lot of games and there are few pitchers that totally wow me live with movement they have on their pitches. To be honest, John Roper was one of the last Reds I had seen that had so much movement (I still don't know how he didn't succeed) on their pitches until today. Like Jake Peavy too, Cueto's pitches were video game like.

He was throwing smoke (94-96) and hitting the corners with regularity. Fastball was moving late and looked heavy.

Slider was anywhere from 86-90 and downright filthy.

Changeup was between 84-87 with late movement.

Basically they might as well have walked up to the plate with a broomstick. He was amazing.
