I very much like the Reds lineup against Kendrick.

If Hatteberg plays against righties, he will hit, as he did last year, as he did the year before, as he did this spring. I'm happy that Votto is starting tonight, but this situation needs to be rectified. It just doesn't make sense to have both these guys -- both lefty hitting first baseman, neither a serious candidate to play other positions.

The Reds team is better, it's getting there, but some of the pieces don't fit.

No.

Patterson is the guy there, and I am fine with that. His D alone makes me happy. I will just grin and bear it with regard to him leading off. He is what he is. But at that, he helps this club. A ton.

Accept that this 2008 Reds team is still a work in progress. Changes still need to be made in order for them to be legitimate contenders. It's a long season. They may become contenders by Sept. Let's sit back and see what unfolds.

No way. Freel's bat (which isn't even that good anymore) doesn't make up for Patterson's advantage in speed and defense.

Per the local news at 6:25 pm, rain will drizzle until about 8 pm, then will go away and not come back.

Side note: God bless the two Colerain (Cincinnati) firefighters and their family/friends who were killed this morning when the floor collapsed at a house fire. Ironically, the family had escaped safety but the firefighters didn't know that and went back in to try to find them.

While the rain is much more concentrated in terms of timing, actually Portland (not speaking for Seattle, a truly coastal city) gets very close to the same amount of rain overall annually as Dayton.
