I'd have to trade Hatte away before I'd sign Frank Thomas. But he would help this team a LOT. Great power off the bench and the occasional start at 1st base. He'd do really good in GABP

I am not sure if his contract is voided since he was released but he has a 9 million dollar option for next year if he gets 300 at bats this year.

He was released. I am not sure if he was placed on waivers, but if he was, whoever picks him up off of waivers must honor his contract. If he clears waivers, then the Blue Jays are responsible for his contract, regardless of who signs him. If he was not placed on waivers, then the Blue Jays would be responsible for his contract. BTW, the 09 option clicks in automatically if he reaches 304 PA this year.

I think we have a good shot at him. He should know that his starting days are over. From what I've seen, no team in the AL needs a DH like him. To most teams, he's just not enough of an upgrade.

Signing Thomas would be a very bad idea. He's 40 years old and a slow starter, the Reds can't afford to wait for another bat to heat up. He has no place to play on the Reds and that is why he's no longer with the Jays. Even if he could manage 1B, NO ONE in MLB would pick him over Votto right now. 5 million a year for a 40 year old hitter with declining stats? The Reds would say no. Now if he were a 40 year old pitcher...

Frank Thomas is no longer a Blue Jay because he refused to do anything other than play every day. When removed from the lineup, he made a big stink and disrupted the chemistry of the clubhouse. Do you want Votto getting 1 start per week? Do you want Frank Thomas playing defense? I didn't think so. They'd be better off with Encarnacion at 1st.
