Harang: 1-3, a 2.76 ERA, 42 1/3 IP, 34 hits, 8 bb, 37 so.
Cueto: 1-2, a 4. 05 ERA, 33 1/3 IP, 24 hits, 5 bb, 31 so.
Volquez: 4-0, 1.23 ERA, 29 1/3 IP, 20 hits, 16 walks, 33 so.

All 3 are pitching well, and should be getting most of the starts. They are allowing less than 1 hit an inning, and are keeping their team in ballgames. Now for the horror show.

Fogg:1-2, a 10.80 ERA, 15 IP, 19 hits, 5 walks, 13 so.
Arroyo: 0-3, a 7.56 ERA, 25 IP, 37 hits, 9 walks, 23 so.
Belisle: 1-1, a 9.00 ERA, 9 IP, 17 hits, 2 bb, 5 so

All 3 are giving up more than 1 hit an inning, and are being hit hard. Arroyo and Belisle should be be at the back of the rotation to minimize the damage they will do to the team. They still are capable of turning things around, but for now Arroyo and Belisle should be the #4 and #5 starters. I would actually have Arroyo as the #5 starter and skip him several times,if he can't show enough improvement.

In conclusion, our starting pitching is better than it was last year, but there is still room for improvement.

Dusty has been adement (sp?) about splitting up the hard throwing guys. I feel like that will just hinder the team's ability to put together a win streak. So I am inclined to agree with you.

I'm happy just crossing Fogg off the list. I don't see him getting out of the pen. As for Bronson and Belisle. something has to change. Bronson has shown he CAN win. He just isn't. Belisle will never be more than a good AAA pitcher. He doesn't translate well into the bigs. IMO

I don't think it has started out any better than last year. Here's April for 1-4 last year.

W-L ERA IP H R HR BB K BAA
4-0 4.23 38.1 41 19 3 9 36 .270
0-2 2.86 34.2 30 15 1 10 23 .240
1-1 2.86 34.1 37 12 3 4 26 .270
3-1 3.45 31.1 28 12 0 7 22 .243

Harang, Arroyo, Lohse, and Belisle(he'll always have 2007) were all very good to start 2007, no offense and the bullpen, but the overall record might have even been better. They weren't all less than 1H/IP, but the WHIP looks respectable for each starter. Cueto and Volquez look like they will be great for years to come, but I don't think Belisle, Arroyo and Fogg failing this year, means the staff is better this year. They also averaged 200+ IP for 2007, that's a tall order for Cueto and Volquez to match.
