Hairston infront of Dunn. That Dusty's a lineup genius I tell you.

Patrick Bateman

Just glossing over Hendrickson's stats.... he's been the talk of the town in Florida for his "breakout" after having Lasik eye surgery.

Unfortunately for him, his peripheral stats, are basically identical (if anything on the crappier side) to his career norms. Lasik may have helped his vision, but not surprisingly, that wasn't his problem (pitching wise) in the first place. He just isn't a very talented pitcher, and I can't think of a better night for the "regression to the mean" to come than tonight.

What does that mean? Expect a complete game shut out today :)

I can't blame anyone for not going to games after the Reds start this year but it's so depressing to see such small crowds. Of course, it probably makes the Marlins feel right at home...

Patrick Bateman
05-13-2008, 07:25 PM
A good start for Volquez.... the walk was kind of bullcrap. Volquez should have had strike 3, arguably twice in that at-bat, instead it turned into a walk. Still, he came back, made some very nice pitches (especially against Cantu) to get out of the inning. But it should have been 3 up 3 down IMO.

I'm not sure how much this has an impact on other people but I was planning on going to one of these 4 games but with gas at 4 dollars a gallon its tough for me to justify going to a game in the middle of the week. Its a 2 hour, one way trip for me.

I don't mind the pitcher getting that call. It was a quality pitch. What I do have a problem with is when Edinson Volquez throws the pitch in an identical location and doesn't get the call. It'd be great to get consistent calls.

Amezaga with an infield hit. Votto hesitated on the throw and Volquez was late getting to 1st.

Cyclone792
05-13-2008, 08:53 PM
That was a hit no matter what Votto did.

Phillips wasn't able to cover the bag, and Volquez had to go around Votto and wasn't going to be able to get to the bag in time. Even if Votto wanted to go to first immediately, he had nobody in a position to cover the bag or tag Amezega for the out.

MUch being made about Perez being Mr. RBI vs. Dunn's inability to drive them in.

Different era's, but Perez's yearly average per 162 games is 96, Dunn's 95.

And Perez fequently hit cleanup behind Rose, Griffey and Morgan, with Foster and Bench for protection.

Dunn isn't usually in RBI spots.

And I can actually understand what Dunn is saying.

I assume Perez's 162 game average includes all his seasons, including when he played until he was 44?

That comparison is a bit skewed in Dunn's favor, no?

No way IMO. 95 pitches through five and he clearly is lacking his best stuff tonight. Volquez threw way too many sliders (his 4th best pitch) tonight which caused him to go deeper into counts. I don't know if it's Ross or Volquez but you don't want to get beat with your 4th best pitch. Stick with the change, fastball, and occasional curve.

Yup. We've seen Dusty go down this road before. Tonight he can claim he needed Volquez to go another inning. Here's to hoping the Reds start the inning with somebody up in the pen.

If Dusty waits until 3 batters and 15 pitches before getting somebody warm, I might go nuts. Hopefully Volquez gets some quick outs and makes it a non-issue.

The pitch count debate will go on forever... I am one who believes you should be able to pitch 100-110 pitches every single time out... People bring up Wood and Prior... Wood has the worst mechanics in the history of the game and Prior was hurt even before he started his pro career. Zambrano consistently pitched into the 120's and has been healthy for the most part....
