Phillips has not been that good this year. Actually I think that Dunn, Griffey, EE and Phillips have hit at least a little worse than most expected. We are at least a .500 team with our hitting from previous years. Our pitching is suddenly around average and not terrible and our hitting has gone from above average to below average.

Volquez and Keppinger.

When Keppinger left and his .450 BA with RISP left with him he was leading the team in RBI's despite not hitting from one of the true RBI spots (3, 4, or 5).

If Volquez doesn't pitch the way he does and instead turns in a typical REDS line 4.50 to 5.00 ERA, Volquez doesn't win 3 games, and the team goes into the biggest funk in the Majors, never ending losing streaks, and being lost for the season. But Patterson would still lead off.

Dunn, Volquez, and Cordero right now. By the end of the season, Dunn will have had his best season yet. He has an excellent OPS and his peripheral numbers are even better. His BB/AB and BB/SO ratios are just great this season.

This is kind of a difficult question, because you have to take into account that Phillips gold glove caliber defense at a premium position makes him more valuable than his offensive numbers (which are pretty good) indicate.

Strangely enough, I would add EE to that mix. He seems to hit when it's most needed. His overall numbers don't really stand out, but he's our Tony Perez.

I just don't care about numbers with RISP or late and close. RISP numbers don't consider guys that get on-base first or when a guy is on first, late and close doesn't consider people who get a lot of hits early in games when the outcome is obviously in doubt. I'm one who doesn't believe in clutch players, just clutch hits. David Ortiz is regarded as one of the best clutch hitters in the game, but his numbers in big situations aren't much different from his regular numbers. Significantly better RISP numbers, I believe, can be chalked up to small sample size.

I agree with you. EE is just going to be a so so, a lil bit better Willie Greene...

Adam Dunn is resposible for 1/3 the wins, Edinson Volquez the other 1/3, and a few other players contributed to the rest of the wins including EE and Janish...

But the 2 most responsible are AD and EV...

Cordero closing.

I know "Chicks" dig the longball, but Dunn's homers aren't MVP worthy. He's still hitting under .200 with RISP. He chokes when it counts. His defense is forgetable. He's Dave Kingman at best. Dunn's play is rarely the reason that the REDS' win games. It's more often the reason the REDS' lose games.

Maybe I am mistaken, but to say Dunn doesn't deliver in big spots a week after he hits a walk off against the indians, and on the west coast trip goes deep in the first game to give the reds a lead against LA when the defense and Arroyo let this team down and then hits a homerun off of hoffman to win the game then gives the reds a lead yesterday with a homerun. I think Dunn backers over value how good he is, but Dunn bashers try to convice you that the reason this team loses is not because of the lousy bullpen or starting pitching its because of Dunn. I come down with the dunn backers on this one.

Actually, he is right in line with today's best players as to home runs when needed (i.e. the game is close) and hr's with men on base.

He's considerably better than Dave Kingman, and as has been stated a billion times, he's cut his K rate, increased his BB rate, all from the 7 spot with no one behind him, and his defense has improved this year...

I think you've got it backwards as to the fact that he's rarely the reason that the Reds lose, and more often the reason that they win...

He got it!

I can think of a game in Wrigley that Votto single-handedly won for us.

For the most part I think it has been Phillips, Dunn, Volquez, and Votto.

wow, I see Volquez's name in almost every post and yet some people still think the trade was a bad idea.

I would also have to say Dunn, Volquez, Cordero and Bako. I think Cordero and Bako have done a great job with the development of the young pitchers and Bako has done a great job calling the game with the Reds young pitchers.

Dunn is starting to turn it on as the true most important player on this team. As Dunn goes so go the Reds. It's going to be interesting if he wants to give the Reds an I'm comfortable with this team semi discount. If not then we sign him before he is an FA or he walks. I just see the Red Sox saying bye bye Manny and hello Adam. He would fit in well there and be a great replacement for the aging Ramirez.

Dunn, in his worst season, was better than Dave Kingman. Its not even close. I don't know how you can say that, other than you hate the guy and don't care how wrong you are.

In fact, this entire post is complete garbage. Oh, what's that? He's hitting under .200 w/ RISP? Well, guess what? Now he's hitting .256/.397/.558 . I guess in the 3 days since you typed that he's morphed into the greatest clutch hitter since whoever the last guy is that you think was a great clutch hitter. "He chokes when it counts." Yeah, him and everyone else who has ever played a game where even the great ones fail 7/10 times.

Rarely the reason the Reds win games, more often the reason they lose them? Prove it. Oh, wait. YOU CAN'T, BECAUSE ITS NOT TRUE.

What good does it do to bat .256 when you hit .200 over your entire career with RISP?

He's been fantastic this May and this should be the best year of his Major League career, as he is 28 years old. Enjoy what he does this year, as it should be a good one.

I would like to see more runners get on base in front of Dunn, just to see what he could do over a season, given the opportunity. In my mind, he seems to be more of a solo shot type of slugger, but I don't know that that is a reflection on the team's poor OBP in general, or that he is such a poor "clutch" hitter. I also fail to see how it is appropriate that any member could say that any other member's post is complete garbage.

I suppose I'll just post this in every thread that has the name Dunn in it until this finally gets understood...

He hits HR's with men on base just as well as any other slugger in recent history...
