Javy is a Maddux killer which explains why he is playing 1B. His days as a catcher may be all but done as a Reds catcher. I could see the Reds trading Hatteberg and using Javy as the 2nd 1st baseman.

Odds Patterson gets 3 hits today and keeps Bruce in AAA for 2 more weeks?

Votto was responsible for more than half the Reds runs last night. So not only do the Reds lose his bat at 1B but they downgrade defensively at 1B. If Dusty wants to put Javy in the lineup then put him behind the plate, it's not like Ross is a gold glover or anything.

And Hairston at SS again. Wow. I don't guess Dusty will ever learn his lesson.

I think it's reasonable to rest Votto and Janish, two youngsters, against Greg Maddox.

Maddux had to just be licking his chops at seeing no real 'hitters' in the Reds lineup. With his intellectual approach...he will once again eat these guys for lunch if he can hit his spots.
It's cat and mouse, and the Reds are like a mouse without legs against Maddux on most occasions.

Dunn doubles. If I were the Padres I would open the vault for Adam Dunn. This is a ball park where you need a couple of true home run hitters, guys who hit the ball 400 feet. Dunn would be perfect, knows the NL, etc.

This winter a number of RedsZoners argued, using all kinds of stats, that Belisle is a very good fifth starter; a good fourth starter; even a passable third starter. It was the subject of much debate. I wouldn't be surprised if that debate ended very soon.

The Reds need to upgrade the Belisle, Fogg, and Lincoln slots on the pitching staff.

The Pirates beat the Cubs 6-5 in 11 innings today after Alfonso Soriano dropped a flyball with two outs in the 9th. If he catches the ball the Cubs win 5-4 but he apparently lost it in the sun and the ball popped out of his glove and Bixler scored from first base. Jason Bay singled in the 11th to win the game for the Pirates. A win today by the Reds would move them to within 5.5 of the Cubs.

I don't even know about that. Mat throws his stuff right down the pipe way too often. I was a defender because I thought he was ready to turn a corner but it's obvious he's making no progress at all and he's no longer a young kid with a long leash. If Belisle throws mid nineties, which I doubt, it is the straightest fastball in baseball because everybody hits it. I just do not understand why people are so unwilling to let go of this pitcher. He has allowed so many hits per inning, this year, last year, after repeated chances.
