Wilson attempts a sacrifice and Votto throws the ball away. 2nd and 3rd. Hit and an error on Votto

OnBaseMachine

One bad, bad defensive flaw Votto has is he looks toward second base everytime a ball is hit to him and then it screws the whole play up.

He's gotta get to the bag for Votto. Wilson had him beat to the sack -- even a good throw would've been safe.

Plays like that just don't seem to matter as much with Jay Bruce in the lineup, do they?

Heh.

Why does it seem to be the same bad dream over and over. Even if it was a good throw, Votto probably wouldn't have got the runner with that look over to second. Cueto just isn't as unhittable as he was earlier is he?

Proof positive why Jay Bruce will not make much difference in this club with the mental mistakes they make.

If I had a dime for every time a Reds starter has been one strike from a 1-2-3 inning and then lost it then I would be a rich man. Harang did it last Thursday and allowed three runs. Volquez did it Friday but escaped the jam and now Cueto is doing it tonight but thankfully he only allows one run.

Cueto clearly has the stuff to be an ace but he's really fighting with his command right now. I still wouldn't send him to AAA because he's too good for AAA hitters. He needs to work his problems out in the majors.

Jr.

Sigh.

He's a statue in RF. An absolute statue. There are two balls to RF tonite that should have been caught (not the one off the wall). Not having a guy in RF who is able to move and catch balls hit in front of him is killing this team. Killing it. Cueto has been far from perfect tonite, and has made his share of rookie mistakes, but, for the love of all that is holy, at least 20 pitches could have been saved to this point if we had a RF in the game who can get to normal balls in play.

It absolutely drives me nuts.

And that is leaving aside what Jr. is doing at the plate once again in the middle of the line-up.

Aargh.
