I also have a problem with moving Bruce out of CF. It's his first week, let's keep him in one place. Freel in RF would mean that he'd be in position to only take out one of his fellow OFers.

On August 9th, 2006, Harang threw 117 pitches in a start against the Cardinals. Two days later on August 11th, 2006, Harang pitched an inning of relief in the 13th inning in a game against Philadelphia.

He came back on August 15th - three days rest after the relief appearance - and got shelled in a start against the Cardinals. He allowed 19 balls in play in that latter start against the Cardinals, and 10 of them were line drives. He gave up 8 hits, 5 runs, 2 walks, and a home run while striking out 4 in only 5 innings.

If I were the manager, I wouldn't ever be pitching Harang out of the bullpen unless it's the last game of a playoff series where he could get four or five days rest afterward.

No pitching depth. Not even a guy to come up and take Fogg's place or spell an overtaxed rotation with a spot start.

Wrong. Flat wrong.

This one is on Jocketty, IF it was ever truly considered that Harang needed an extra day. Today was Maloney's day in AAA. He's plenty ready to spot a start in the bigs. He could have been up for Belisle, and pitching tonight, and then back down again tomorrow to activate Mercker.

Tonight is, quite simply, an organizational eff up with regard to what Harang had in the tank after last Sunday. No more. No less.

Have to hope there is enough life in the bats to make this interesting late...

As Brantley pointed out on TV, all of his pitches were up in the zone; he wasn't driving through the ball like he usually does. At first Brantley said that it probably isn't due to fatigue, but then he quickly changed his mind and said it might be.

I have no problem at all with a 4 man rotation and pitching guys on 3 days rest. BUT, you have to work up to it, it has to be organization-wide, and the pitchers have to be "raised" that way. And you can't sneak relief outings in between...

As you have pointed out, you just can't throw Harang out there on 3 days rest and expect the usual excellence from him.

He'll be OK, and they need to take him out now.

Have we figured out if MLB has changed the rules so the Reds can get Dunn back into this game?

Put a wig on him, and let him pretend to be Arroyo.

:D Trying to be polite..ya know.

TJ, can I politely ask you why you think Dunn was removed from a game the Reds were losing in the 4th inning, after 2 Ab's and a hit?

If he's not injured, overmatched or being traded, it's a mystery.

And the manager squarely come into question for that, right?

Wow. That 3-1 pitch to Edwin was shoulder height but the ump called it a strike. Should have runners on first and second and nobody out.
