Marty and Thom said during the first inning that in 4 starts, Dumatrait had a plus 15 e.r.a. giving up 39 hits in 18 innings last year for the Reds. Not good.

The info I've been able to find supports the Reds' decision to let him go.

With the Reds, he pitched 18 innings and gave up 39 hits, 30 runs and walked more batters than he struck out. It would be hard to justify keeping a pitcher with those numbers after 6 starts.

I found this statement from August 2007 at rotoworld: "Dumatrait was enough of a bust in four starts that he might not be invited back in September. He had a 14.18 ERA in his first stint in the majors."

I read a quote from Dumatrait that said getting picked up after the Reds released him caused him to work harder and it appears to be paying off. Seems as though it took losing his job to motivate him to improve.

I remember his start against the brew crew last year, starts the game by giving up back to back to back HR's.

I think they gave up on him to early! He had put up some pretty good numbers the last couple of years in the minors. What if they would have given up on Burton after his first couple of outings in the big leagues last year. Maybe it takes some guys a few outings to settled in to the big leagues. I mean I'm sure playing in the big leagues has been a goal and dream of these guys since they were little boys, and when it becomes reality I bet it is a bit overwhelming at first. Then once they get a few outings in and feel comfortable they do just fine! That's just my take on the matter!
