I don't have much of a problem with stealing bases towards the bottom of the lineup. Advancing the bases as a runner is more difficult with poor hitters up, which makes the extra bag more valuable and the lessens the cost of making an out.

A hook slide from Votto and he may have been in there.

This is one of this generation of player's quirks that really irk me -the standing and admiring thing. Lots of things are prefaced with "in the old days" that really aren't true but in this case it is. If player stood and watched their hits in "the old days" they would've gotten a fastball in the earflap next time up and a butt chewing in the dugout from a teammate or two and the manager. Used to be considered "showing up" your opponent. Now its de joure.

Since coming to the majors though, Cueto has always pitched better when he's not from the stretch. So, it'll be interesting to see how he pitches if he's got a runner on base.

I will say this about Cueto's very uneven year, first game against D-backs, game at home against Cleveland, and now here, has carried lack of hit goodness fairly deep into three games this year. It's a reminder how ridiculously good his stuff is, and a measure of why it is well worth having him in the rotation...

Interesting post from Homer Bailey about Cueto tipping his pitches.

Norton didn't pick up on it there. But he grips the ball with whatever pitch he is going to throw before it gets to the glove. It was very obvious on the change up he just threw.

Also, he is digging from the windup on his breaking ball, meaning it is obvious he is changing his grip from a normal fastball.

Maybe the Braves aren't picking up on it, but someone mentioned on here that maybe that is why he has been having trouble with men on base. Getting away with it today so far (through 5), but I think that this should be addressed. Watch for it.

Just something to keep an eye on.

I see an EdE/JR platoon with Hairston at 3B against RH and in RF against LH. Occasional days off or Hairston and Kepp get EdE and Griffey both in the line-up about once a week. Not sure how Freel fits. Maybe to give Bruce and Dunn a little rest.
