I'm afraid it will be worse than that. I think Dusty might use this as an excuse to get Patterson back in the lineup because "he needs that speed" and if he's playing over Bruce then Janish will be hitting 2nd. Hopefully he'll use Bruce as the lead off hitter but Janish will still be batting 2nd in that line up.

I don't know if they'd want to put him on the 40 man roster. Although the only non catcher position player left on the 40 man roster that could be called up is Dickerson.

My guess is it'll be Bolivar unless the Reds want to give Valaika a quick taste of the majors. Andy Green isn't a shortstop, and Adam Rosales has gone in the tank so far this year. At least with Bolivar you'll know you have a glove out at shortstop for the handful of innings that he may be pressed into action.

Agreed. Bolivar is someone they can add to the 40 and then slide through waivers later on. I'm not sure who they're holding the extra spot for.

I'm not sure where he stands on rehab but they might just go ahead and activate Kepp and plan on using him only in emergencies for a couple days until he's back to 100%.

Indeed.
Many many innings were wriggled out of by EV, sooner or later you will pay in the major leagues, even if it is against Jeremy Hermida and Jorge Cantu.

Oh well, get back on the saddle young man.

35 pitches in the 5th, 46 for innings 1-4

Just a quick glance at EV's propensity to play with fire. He has faced bases loaded situations nine times (now ten) this year. By comparison Arroyo has faced them eight times and Harang only twice.

I'll give him credit because he usually seems to limit the damage (until today) but he is going to have a real blow up inning soon if he keeps this up and his luck changes.

All of these runs should be unearned.

I know...but it is what it is. Honestly, I look the other way when it happens to the Reds at home, so I won't complain.

Young players make errors. It happens to young players who end up being Hall of Famers and great defensive players, and it happens to young players who end up as bench players throughout their careers.

True. Doesn't make it less frustrating to watch.

If you're watching a team of young players, you learn to deal with it. Then you watch them progress after a couple seasons and the errors begin to fade away. Votto, Bruce, and Janish are all going to make stupid errors from time to time this season, just like Encarnacion has been doing for a couple years.

Go check out the early season error totals of Barry Larkin, Cal Ripken Jr., Ozzie Smith, and Mike Schmidt. All four were great defensive players, and all four were Hall of Famers. They all made errors in bunches their first three or four seasons in the majors.

Young players make errors. It happens to young players who end up being Hall of Famers and great defensive players, and it happens to young players who end up as bench players throughout their careers.
