Bailey very stealable so far.

OnBaseMachine

Homer allowed an 0-2 single to Ellsbury and then two stolen bases. Pedroia sac fly makes it 1-0.

Bailey very stealable so far.

Yeah...just little bit. He looks very anti-offspeed(y) too.

Caseyfan21

Great AB by Pedroia. A lot of these Sox hitters make me jealous. They are so patient and work the pitcher until they get a pitch they want.

Highlifeman21
06-15-2008, 01:21 PM
Looks like Bailey is laboring to hit 92 on the gun, IMO.

And that 92 is arrow straight.

Matt700wlw
06-15-2008, 01:21 PM
Is stealable even a word?

Now he walks Drew. He better be thankful that Manny isn't in today's lineup

Is Ellsbury that fast or is Ross that bad?

Highlifeman21

Walks Drew, looked almost semi-intentional.

Buckeye33
06-15-2008, 01:22 PM
Well, Bailey sure isn't getting the low strike.

As well, he simply does not have an out pitch. That makes it really hard to be successful at the major league level.

Highlifeman21
06-15-2008, 01:22 PM

33 SB on the year so far, it's not all just Ross.

Matt700wlw
06-15-2008, 01:23 PM
What happened to this kid's velocity? It's hard to be a power pitcher, when your power isn't there.

Highlifeman21
06-15-2008, 01:24 PM
Bailey's changeup is way too high in the zone early on.

Tommyjohn25
06-15-2008, 01:24 PM
Oh where, oh where, did our prized pitching prospect go? This is not the guy we drafted. I refuse to believe it.

Buckeye33
06-15-2008, 01:25 PM
Is Ellsbury that fast or is Ross that bad?

Ellsbury is very fast, but Bailey is so slow to the plate that those 2 bases were a given the instant Ellsbury reached first.

Highlifeman21
06-15-2008, 01:25 PM
Poor AB by Lowell.

Good to see Bailey get out of the 1st without too much damage.

And I thought Nancy Drew had wheels. I'm surprised he didn't try to swipe one off Bailey.

Dick Pole has changed his mechanics.

I remember last year there were rumors of LaRussa and Dave Duncan coming to Cincy. I don't like LaRussa but that would have been nice only because of Duncan. I think a guy like Duncan could really straighten out Homer Bailey.

Highlifeman21

Ellsbury is very fast, but Bailey is so slow to the plate that those 2 bases were a given the instant Ellsbury reached first.

Stealing 2B was b/c Homer's slow to the plate, and Ellsbury is fast.

Stealing 3B was b/c Homer's slow to the plate, Ellsbury's fast, and Ross has a rag arm.

Highlifeman21

Is it just me, or in the past week has Bruce fallen in love with swinging at the 1st pitch he sees during a PA?

The SS batting 2nd yet again. I think I'm moving through the stages of grief backwards. I started at anger, then went to denial. Now I'm back at anger again, with a healthy dose of embarrassment.

That said... good to see Cabrera lace one up the middle for a base hit.

It was a good AB...up until he took a strike....yes it was outside, but he looked like he was ready to walk instead of trying to hit.

Oh yeah, Homer Bailey isn't Josh Beckett.

Tony Cloninger
06-15-2008, 01:48 PM
It might have been a ball...but with a pitcher like Beckett and the fact that we still have umpires who do not know one strike from another ball...but they do know who is pitching....that was going to get called a strike.

If it is Bailey pitching....that may be called a ball. Heck...it would be.

We need an earpiece in the umps ear...and a machine telling them what is a ball or strike. I cannot stand the human element of balls and strikes. So many games are determined by umps bad strikezone judgement...and how tired they are later in the game or who is AB or pitching.

Why?

Does Homer not deserved to be booed based on his performance today?

Umm, no.

The kid is 22 years old. He's struggled lately in AAA. He should have never been here in the first place. Booing him off the field was downright embarrassing IMO. Just like booing Jay Bruce a few nights ago for dropping a flyball was embarrassing.

All this talk by CHris Welch about his delivery--why is he not capping it off with the fact that the player is poorly coached?

Because, Chris is friends with all the coaches and the manager and the players and everyone else in Cincinnati. Why is he doing JTM commercials? Because he has connections (and probably a good agent). You get real critical of the staff and you lose "friends" and access.

Marty and Brantley the only ones who have the guts to criticize and they catch the devil for it. That's why.

I really don't want to see Maloney either. As bad as Homer was in AAA prior to getting the call Maloney has been worse of late. The era of 5 will look real nice when he faces major league pitching in this launching pad. I'm all for giving Thompson a chance. At least he is performing right now.

If I was at that game paying $20-$60+ for a ticket and I had to sit through the last hour of Red Sox batting practice I think I would be a little upset. He didn't fool anyone out there. Just about everything was hit hard. It's not like they were getting bloop singles and errors from fielders. Those 5 runs were all on Homer. As a fan paying ridiculous prices I deserve to let Homer and the Reds front office know how I feel.

Do you expect the fans to stand up and give him a standing ovation for being terrible?

When you pay to go to a game and watch professionals play you expect a professional performance. Stupid mistakes like Bruce dropping the ball and now Homer's inability to do his job are not up to the expectations and deserve boos. They're adults, they can handle the criticism.

I respectfully disagree.

If I were at the park, I would have booed Homer after giving up the Crisp homer, the Ellsbury homer and especially the Drew homer.

Once The Dusty pulled Homer, if I were at the park, I would have booed him until he got into the dugout.

His performance was definitely boo-able. The fans at the park called a spade a spade and voiced their displeasure not only with Homer, but the Reds as a whole.

Homer Bailey is not high on the Reds' list of starters in terms of best chance to get the W.

Do I want to see Homer Bailey pitch well? You betcha.
Do I expect him to do so? Absolutely not.

If I'm stuck having to watch Bailey pitch on Saturday, then I wanna see stuff that I've never see at a game before, like maybe one of the Yankees hit 4+ HR in the game, or maybe the Reds get no-hit or be victim to the perfect game. Bottomline, if I'm stuck having to watch Bailey, I wanna see history.

On Sunday, I wanna see Cueto dominate the Yankees. I'd settle for a quality start, but I'd love to watch him fool the Yankees with his slider and his changeup, and then blow the fastball by them when they aren't lookin' for the heater.

* Win Friday's game 3-1, but get only 4 hits
* Battle back from a deficit to tie the game on Saturday, but a bone-headed base-
running play costs you the win in 9 (and poor pitching in the 10th seals it)
* Then you're reminded on Sunday that this is the real Reds team--offensively

For some reason when Keppinger was hurt and then Hairston, someone had the bright idea Bruce should leadoff (which IMHO is a poor choice). He was knocking the cover off the ball and you really need him down in the order, but who knows?

Anyway, you are correct. With Griffey behind Bruce and Phillips and Dunn behind Griffey, the team showed offensive life, but with Bruce leading off, we are lost in getting runs.

You're right, Phillips would have to adjust his approach and he is very capable of doing that. He can hit for average, work a walk, bunt, hit doubles, we know he can hit homeruns, hit to the opposite field and has that speed. Plus he has a lot of pride and doesn’t like to look bad or be embarrassed especially when the media or camera is around. He would try very hard to do well in the leadoff spot. I remember when he came, he was trying to get Narron to hit him near the top or leadoff.
